We're getting more into care plans with the upcoming semester and the program is now recommending a nursing diagnosis handbook in addition to the required texts.
The one they recommend is by Ackley.
Amazon.com: Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: An Evidence-Based Guide to Planning Care (9780323071505): Betty J. Ackley MSN EdS RN, Gail B. Ladwig MSN RN CHTP: Books
Does anyone have this book? Is it a good one? Any other ones that you would recommend?

I have that one. I haven't actually started the nursing program yet so I can't tell you if it's a helpful book or not, but it is well organized and easy to understand. I flipped through a few different options and I liked this book's layout most.

I have the previous edition of that book, one of my teachers recommended it actually. It's been quite helpful!

I used this book Amazon.com: Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention (9780323039543): Meg Gulanick PhD APRN FAAN, Judith and thought it was helpful. It was what my program recommended.
It probably makes sense to go with what your school recommends, since the book might more closely conform with their expectations for your care plans.

Also use the Ackley text. I know some students who don't like it, but I haven't had a problem with it so far. Good luck! :)

Ackley! Ackley! Ackley! I have used the Carpenito book and it was ok(sold it this summer) but Ackley (8th edition) is what I refer to the most. You don't need the newest edition (9th) but I wouldn't use an edition that was too old obviously as there may be newer NANDAs, NICs and NOCs on there. But you could find that out online too for free I also have a Doenges book but haven't used that yet for nursing care plans.
Save yourself 50 bucks and go with the 8th edition. Here's a list of the new 2009-2011 revised or new diagnosis they have plus's or star's if there new or revised.
