Hi all,
I have been working in a medical-surgical/telemetry unit for the last 8 months and will be transitioning to a surgical/trauma ICU in a level 1 trauma center (yay!). I'd like to know from all you seasoned nurses or new grads in ICU what would be a good reference guide to use so I can read up on unfamiliar diseases, drugs, etc. I already purchased the Kathy White Fast Facts Binder, but would like a more detailed book as a back up guide.
Also, any tips for ICU nursing would be very much appreciated! Thanks!!

You should be set up to do ECCO (Essentials of Critical Care Orientation) at your new facility (assuming they are a good facility and not cheap). While boring as all hell, it will give you the information you need to transition to your new role.

A book? Honestly, Im not trying to be condescending but there is no disease process for 9 gunshots wounds or 5 stab wounds. lIt really bothers me that people put out books and take other nurses money over switching units.
You've been a nurse. You know your lab values. We just look at things more often in an icu unit. Don't be intimidated. You know your stuff. You just meet with more docs and chart it more often. Your q8 vitals are now q1. You must look at your patient and labs straight off.
Just be confident. Don't buy books.

ICU faqs is a website with a lot of information, which you download as a word document. I've found this website very helpful. And it's free!!!!
