Thanks, Scrubs09

You should study percents, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, integers and some word problems. I actually like the way the proctors issued the exam...it was up to the student in which order we wanted to complete the test wether it be reading 1st or math 2nd....I did the math 1st followed by the reading.you find out right away if you get into the lpn prep class. The prep class starts in Jan 2011 and it meets 2xs a week for a total of 8hrs...The test proctor advised that we don't miss any class, which is from 4:30pm until 8:30pm......

Hey,

I would really like to hear ALL about the GoldWater program!

I am new to the area and I am looking towards the Goldwater or BALC

LPN programs. I have heard all sorts of stories about the admission processes.

TABE and CNET exams, program schedules, uniforms, clinicals, etc. So it would really be appreciated if insight is shared on this thread!

Thanks a Bunch!!

I just went thru BALC and graduated in 6/2010, took the nclex-pn in sept and passed on my first try. The admissions process is long, they start receiving applications in october and start testing in jan(though I heard this fluctuates from year to year). First you take the cNET test which I would equivalent the level of difficulty to the pSAT and then if you score high enough they have you go in and take a TABE test. I find the tabe test to the easier than the CNET exam and most of it is high school material. For the CNAs out there, it was the same admissions exam that you took to get into CNA training class (at least for new york state thats true).

If you do well enough on the TABE test, they conduct an interview with you but its pretty informal. They ask questions like how do you expect to support yourself while you're in school? and Why do you want to be an LPN? After all that, they give you an admissions packet which you have to complete (application, physical, letters of reference, CPR certiciate,..)Submit everything and class starts in September.

My class started on Sept 10 or 13. Its a 10 month long program (ends in june), full time mon-fri 9-4. The program is pretty rigorous and above all very disorganized. However, the tuition runs about 2000 which is considered fairly cheap for an LPN class. My recommendation is that while enrolled, try not to work full-time because you will have a hard time keeping up. The program is broken up into three semesters. During the first semester, you take classes like body structure, nutrition, development, PNA(practical nursing arts), terminology, dosage calculations, microbiology. The second and thrid semesters you will take the more medically involved classes such as med-surge, rehab, ob/peds, and pharmacology. During the second and third semester, they also divide the student body into two groups and then have them alternate going to clinicals every two weeks.

I hope this clarifies things a bit for you. I also have a copy of the student handbook from last year that I can email to you if you need it, sent me a note or message

Sometimes you will feel like certain teachers are out to get you but you learn to forget and hopefully forgive

thanks everyone for the positive additions to the thread...keep 'em coming & congrats to all those accecpted or graduated

Failed the exam, congrats to who passed n good luck to those taking the test

I found the test to be very easy. The hardest thing was the fractions, I guessed that entire section got a 62% on that:-/. I scored in the 97th %tile in the reading and 95th %tile in the math. That didn't just come cuz I'm smart, I did ALL the practice tests on the website TWICE! I was really prepared. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. Hope to see you Jan.

Hello all again,

I took the TABE last night at Goldwater & I passed! There was alot going on, as 80% of the prospective students arrived late, everything had to be repeated a million times. I did find the exam to be easy, only thing Im not looking forward to is taking 2 other tests. That seems so pointless!

Well goodluck to the rest of the prospective students awaiting to take the TABE exam!

Hope to See you guys in Jan!
