GoldWater Lpn Program

Published

Ok so i got the letter to come in for the initial Tabe test(Nov 8) to see if i can make it in to the Lpn Prep. And I have the worst case of nerves (very unusuall for me) can anyone tell me what the entry Tabe is like? especially the math part as math is not my friend lol.

well im working this and another route to see how i can become a LPN I refuse to give up. Thanks guys for all your help.

Outstanding congrats,

Hello all again,

I took the TABE last night at Goldwater & I passed! There was alot going on, as 80% of the prospective students arrived late, everything had to be repeated a million times. I did find the exam to be easy, only thing Im not looking forward to is taking 2 other tests. That seems so pointless!

Well goodluck to the rest of the prospective students awaiting to take the TABE exam!

Hope to See you guys in Jan!

Congrats! Also, can you tell me what TABE study guide is recommended for preparation for the initial exam?

Thanks.

Hey Ladies,

Im very excited that you guys all did well!

I have yet to hear about when the January prep course begins

I went to the library and signed out just about every nursing school

entrance exam book available! Lol. I am studying for the C-Net as well

Its good to study a wide variety of exams to get a feel for different

questions. But on the other hand we will be reviewing/preping for the exams

during the months of Jan-May.

Please let me know when you guys hear anything!

Talk to ya soon!

I just went thru BALC and graduated in 6/2010, took the nclex-pn in sept and passed on my first try. The admissions process is long, they start receiving applications in october and start testing in jan(though I heard this fluctuates from year to year). First you take the cNET test which I would equivalent the level of difficulty to the pSAT and then if you score high enough they have you go in and take a TABE test. I find the tabe test to the easier than the CNET exam and most of it is high school material. For the CNAs out there, it was the same admissions exam that you took to get into CNA training class (at least for new york state thats true).

If you do well enough on the TABE test, they conduct an interview with you but its pretty informal. They ask questions like how do you expect to support yourself while you're in school? and Why do you want to be an LPN? After all that, they give you an admissions packet which you have to complete (application, physical, letters of reference, CPR certiciate,..)Submit everything and class starts in September.

My class started on Sept 10 or 13. Its a 10 month long program (ends in june), full time mon-fri 9-4. The program is pretty rigorous and above all very disorganized. However, the tuition runs about 2000 which is considered fairly cheap for an LPN class. My recommendation is that while enrolled, try not to work full-time because you will have a hard time keeping up. The program is broken up into three semesters. During the first semester, you take classes like body structure, nutrition, development, PNA(practical nursing arts), terminology, dosage calculations, microbiology. The second and thrid semesters you will take the more medically involved classes such as med-surge, rehab, ob/peds, and pharmacology. During the second and third semester, they also divide the student body into two groups and then have them alternate going to clinicals every two weeks.

I hope this clarifies things a bit for you. I also have a copy of the student handbook from last year that I can email to you if you need it, sent me a note or message

JeanLee000,

Thanks a bunch for this info!

If you wouldnt mind, could you please email me the student handbook. Id like to look it over.

hello LikeAStar,

I was reading your very informative post about the lpn program and i wanted to know about the CPR certification. I thought that was something they did with you in the class.... How long does it take to get certified and what type of certification do they want... American Heart Association or Red Cross?? does it even matter? I also read that you can take a CPR class online...makes no sense to me, how they do that online. But would you recommend that?? Thanks

Congrats to all who have pass and are ready for the program. Do they only offer the prep-classes one time for the year?

:idea:Just read all that info. you posted and although it is too late to say congrats, but you did it. Can you email me infomation about Balc program and how to go about getting in. Is it too late to try? What about Goldwater prep-class is it too late to try to get in?

The next prep class for Goldwater is scheduled for January 2013 if they do it this year since the hospital that holds the prep/LPN classes is closing down. You should contact them to know for sure. The tabe testing for it is usually held about 3 months prior. The CPR course you can find it for about $70 which was the cheapest I found and it must be AHA BLS. You must attend the class and you get your card the same day. Hope this helps :-)

I'm sorry I didn't reply to each of you individually I'm still learning to use the all nurses app lol
