It seems like every cohort/application cycle has one of these pages. I wanted to start a new thread for the Spring 2023 cycle so we can keep each other updated during the application period and ask questions. Best wishes to everyone applying!

I mean technically you can still accept their acceptance offer (deadline to accept or reject is today), but just lag on uploading the required documents such as titers, vaccines, etc. That could buy you some time until you hear back from other schools. If you hear back from other schools before the mandatory orientation, you can tell them you're not going forward with their program and an alternate candidate can take your place. End of the day, it's up to you on what you want to do with your acceptance from GWC.
Hello all,
I'm Kenji a 2nd Semester student at GWC.
To those who didn't get in: I applied through 3 cycles and about 7 - 8 schools per cycle before I finally got in to GWC, my first choice. Hang in there, reassess your situation and speak to the counselor about maximizing your points before the next cycle.
With that said, congrats to all those who got in ??! I look forward to meeting you all this Spring. It seems you all are already on it, but if you have questions about anything (from where to park on campus or to what to expect at clinical), let me know and I will do my best to answer. Just know it might be a bit delayed cause 2nd semester is hitting me a bit harder than I thought ? ?.
Again, congrats and take care,
Kenji

How many skills did you get tested on for first semester and how many skills are you tested on for second semester?

It is about 7 - 8 skills in 1st semester, and we are evaluated for 7 skills in 2nd semester. However, there are other skills we must review/show proficiency in during our 2nd semester that are not evaluated. I hope that answers your question.
How do we show proficiency in the other skills we're not tested on those skills?
We have an online study feature that has skills on it. We have to spend time on it (read the chapter, watch the videos, answer critical thinking questions) and take a Post-Chapter quiz. So when we see the skill being performed by nurses, we have a better understanding of what we are seeing and what we should make note of/prioritize. Does that help?

What are the seven/ eight skills that we have to be tested on?
Thanks so much for being so informational @Kenji12345!! I have a question, do you know when your guys’ numbered alternates got in?

No problem! That varied. Those that were initially accepted had to submit an intent to enroll within a week or so of admissions emails going out (Oct 20th, the wait was painful), some didn't and basically gave up their seat. That was when the first alternates were given admission (late October). However I know alternates that got in during late November/early December.

This was answered better in the Fall 2022 forum, but off the top of my head:
Blood pressure, physical assessment, med administration: oral/PO, subq, IM; NG Tube insertion, and Foley Catheter.
I probably forgot 1 or 2 but that is essentially it.

So apparently there’s an “alternate NUMBER list” and then an “alternate list”
Has anyone on the alternate number list received an email yet?
