Going to start a CLNC course

hello, i am new to this site and decided to join so i could maybe develop some friends in the clnc world. i've decided to take the course and plan to be at the may class in chicago. is there anyone else out there planning to be there? i am a little nervous but also very excited. i hope to be able to talk to the other clnc's out there and get some ideas and help if i need it. thanks for reading this.

I am planning to take the course in Las Vegas in March 2007. Has anyone heard anything negative about Vickie's program? I read all of the information and have been duly impressed. However, there is a nagging part of my brain that says, "if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is." Call it healthy skepticism or whatever. I just want to make sure that I am doing the right thing. Can anyone provide some reassurance? I am looking for a way to be my own boss and retain my nursing education and experience. I would also appreciate any information on how the seminar runs. Does the meeting go into the evening hours or is that our own time to spend sight seeing etc? My son will be on spring break and I thought about bringing him along so we could spend some time doing things when I am not in class. Is that a reasonable idea or will there be too much studying? Thanks!

It's normal to be apprehensive doing something like this. I was, too.

The CLNC course is no different than taking the online AALNC course as they are both educative entities. Essentially the same material is covered in both courses. Presentation is different with one being live and the other taped.

The course starts in high gear around 8:30 a.m. (instruction) and will continue until around 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. everyday. You will need adequate time afterwards to study the assignments for the next day as well as study the sample test questions to prepare for the exam.

When I took the course in St. Louis, I took in a Cards game three nights. I also panicked that I didn't prepare enough for the exam. But, I was alone and didn't have to "entertain" anyone, so that was good. I pressured my own self and got cornered into a "cram" session. Wasn't a good feeling.

IMHO? I wouldn't bring my son. I think you might be too stressed to do that, but everyone is different so it will be something that you have to decide for yourself. Remember, this is your future; you will be in a learning mode and will want to allow time to interact with others there as well. Some sightseeing is in order and I advise that to relax, but please know that you will have a fair amount of studying.

I am new to this site and decided to join (like everyone else) because I am interested in a career in Legal Nurse Consulting. I recieve info in the mail all the time from the Vickie Milazzo Institute. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the differences between her institute, Kaplan, and the AALNC courses. One thing I have noticed is the costs (AALNC being cheaper). Kaplan doesn't offer CEU's with their courses.

Can anyone give any advice on the best way to go?

kaplan's program is approx. one year in length. afterwards, you will receive a certificate of completion. the modules are not as intensive as the aalnc or milazzo programs. it is online.

the aalnc course is online as well. afterwards, when you meet the requirements, you may sit for board certification and will be recognized as legal nurse consultant certified (lncc):

the vickie milazzo course (naaclnc) is either a live course or a home-study program. after successfully passing the natl. board exam, you will be recognized as certified legal nurse consultant (clnc):

i don't know a lot about kaplan's program and have never met anyone who has taken that particular course.

you cannot go wrong with aalnc or clnc.

Hi,

I took the Milazzo course and it was a great experience, I really could not say anything negative about it. You might also want to go on a site called RN Market or LNC Stat. The coorifice is very similar but the class size is much smaller. It is run by former students of Vicki. I think it looks good also, and is a little less pricey.

If it sounds too good to be true. Yes wise words. However Vicki reminds us not to "mistake (her) enthusiasm for it bieng easy."

She tell us:

You can make some very good money. You must work very hard to make it. The first year or two will involve a lot of self sacrifice.

If that sounds too good to be true well there is not much I can say.

I found the information relative easy to learn as it was presented very well.

Let's face it you have to be your own salesman, and most nurses are not sales people. Given that, it could be too good to be true for many. If you are not up to being an agressive sales person you might have a problem with this area of nursing.

If nothing else this course will change forever the way you look at nursing and the way you practice even if you never do CLNC work. You will be heads beyond your collegues and managers in knowing how to protect yourself legally.

Great Plan! I took the course in 2004 and have never regretted it. I now handle Medicare Part A appeals for two hospital clients, (plus some outside work with attorneys), and work with their attorney who couldn't get over the detail of my work product - all learned in the CLNC program, mind you. Had to tell him what the course entailed, and he was impressed.

You won't be sorry, as long as you make the effort to use what you learned. Good for you!!
