Going to Philippines for nursing

Hi, I'm a current nursing student in California, family problems happened in the Philippines unexpectedly where my mother and I must go to the Philippines soon. My problem is I'm in the nursing program right now here in California where i have 2 more semesters to go. Are there any nursing schools that will accept my nursing credit and allow me to finish or would I have to start the nursing program all over again?

My suggestion is to take of your family situation, take of leave of absence from school and complete your degree in the USA ( of course if you wish to practice other than the USA disregard this), the time to get your credentials verified will take much longer if you complete your degree outside the USA.

You got past the hardest part of a US education, getting in.....I would not waste all your efforts.

Ditto what was said in previous post. You accomplished quite a lot by getting into an American nursing program. Don't make things difficult for yourself in the future. Talk to the people at school and take a leave of absence. Better to delay finishing school, than to get caught up in the foreign school situation.

Also keep in mind that if you're going to be in the Philippines for a set number of years after you graduate and don't plan on working you're going to be outdated as a nurse when you come back. How far did you get in your nursing program? You didn't say if you were in a BSN program or ADN program. If you're in a state that accepts Excelsior see if they will accept your education as an advanced placement student. At least you can keep your education going if that's what you want and you wont have the issues of foreign education that can set you back as stated in the above post. Hope this helps and good luck.

@ alfred217: Sir the posts above are the best solutions I can think of. Joining the Philippine Nurse's bandwagon is not a nice idea, finish your degree in the USA even if it means you will be delayed in graduating a bit, at least you are assured of a stable and financially sound job there in the US .I don't want to sound critical about nursing in the Philippines since I am a Filipino nurse myself. A lot of nurses here are currently unemployed, me included but mostly new grads because the nursing scene here is already very saturated, thousands graduate and become registered yearly yet no jobs are available, even volunteer work wherein the RN will be the one to pay the hospital for the much coveted "certificate of employment" are becoming scarce. Indeed, nursing graduates here have become overwhelmingly large in number the government is already having a hard time where to put them. I am not saying that you would practice here as a nurse, that idea would be absurd but you should remember that for most countries an initial requirement to be registered is to have at least a year's experience in a hospital setting, this is where most nurses here get in a snag, and you will be too if you finish your degree here. CONTINUE YOUR NURSING DEGREE IN THE US. sir Alfred217 you would regret it if you do it here. Most of us would kill to be in your position hehehe :rotfl: just kidding

I'm guessing you have filipino blood? am I right?

To all my fellow filipino nurses who might read this please don't flame me

I'm just telling sir alfred217 here of the sad reality of our present situation I really do hope and pray that things would be a lot better in the future for all of us.

God Bless the Pinoy nurse!:bow::bow::bow:
