I finally recieved the news that my packet was excepted for the Navy Nurse Corps!!! Things are going quickly now, I am swearing in on Friday, starting ODS 9/1/08 (don't know when I will be sent there), and my ultimate duty station is Naval Hosptial Camp Pendleton. So basically, what should I be taking to ODS, what should I expect, anyone been stationed at Camp Pendleton, what areas are family friendly to live in? Any comments and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

:wink2:Hi ! congrats !! Im new and trying to get into the army nurse corps reserves... I LOVE CAMP PENDLETON!!!! 2 of my kids were born there and my husband retired there from the Marine Corps... I Love the area I was raised 8 minutes from there, certain areas in Oceanside I wouldnt live but overall its a great area near the ocean :) good luck !

Congratulations! I went to high school in Fallbrook (on the Naval Weapons Station side of Pendleton), and did some time in the Naval Hospital there (broke right distal fibula my senior year!). Fallbrook is also a great little (emphasis on little) place, family-wise. The schools are large enough to have good programs, but aren't overwhelming - at least, that was true in 2001, when I graduated.

My NCP packet is currently a work in progress - keeping my fingers crossed. Congrats again!

Hi! I'm going to ODS Sept 14, so maybe I'll see you there!

The ODS website has a list of stuff to take:

https://otcn.netc.navy.mil/ODS/index.htm

See if that link works, it doesn't seem to be working on my computer. My husband went a few years ago and brought:

-certified copies of birth certificate, ssn card, marriage license (if married), maybe something else...

-7-8 copies of your orders, he went through them pretty quick

-your immunization records so you don't have to get all your shots again

-bathing suit

-alarm clock

-pt gear

I can't think of anything else offhand...but that website should list everything.

p.s. How did you get Camp Pendleton? Was that your first choice? Were you offered other options? Just curious...I was only offered Portsmouth.

Also, I use this site to gather info about where to live. But again, take it with a grain of salt. I'm moving to Portsmouth and everyone says that's the worst place to live, but when I visited a few times I love it!

I was also told by my recruiter and detailer they usually only send ENS to the big hospitals but since I had experience I was able to pick from various locations. I was also given a Duty Station preference form where I was able to choose 3 duty stations and then from there I negotiated with my detailer. Camp Pendelton was my second, first was Balboa, and third was Hawaii. It also has allot to do with the needs of the Navy, I learned that early on when my husband was enlisted. Also, I wasn't so much worried about location, I'm the type of person that makes the best out of every situation so I know I can make any experience work for me. Hope to see you at ODS !!!

Edit...Oops...double post! Darn slow computer!

Not sure where my post went, but ok, that makes sense! Just curious. I like hearing what options people got! I love Portsmouth from visiting, so I'm definitely excited and will make the best of it.

Apparently certain areas are really nice and some areas aren't that nice.

Hey there, I went to OIS 3 years ago, I didn't know anything before going so I just used the list off the website and that seemed to cover everything. I took some civvies but never got to wear them until after I checked out...When you are given liberty you have to wear your dress uniform-either whites or blues-out in town, khakis around the base. I took a few pairs of comfy sweats that I wore on the weekends around King Hall when studying. Don't forget your shower shoes and cash for meals-since you have to pay for them all. Bring a combo lock for your room to lock all your stuff. Also bring an iron for your uniform inspections. People who didn't bring them had to either use the ones they had, which weren't great, or they bought them later. They have ironing boards there. Also bring plenty of shoe polish, black and white. Cleaning supplies were also prized, we bought our own to get our rooms clean for inspection. OIS was mostly fun, except for the 4 a.m. wakeups nearly everyday!

When did you submit your packet? My Daughter just submitted her packet.

I am curious about how long to wait.
