Going Crazy in LPN School/Advice PLEASE

I don't understand how your school can do this. You need 700 hours of clinical to be a LPN. Is your school accredited? I would make a complaint. Your class is going to be totally unprepared to be nurses. I wish you the best of luck. Nancy

I am in a 12 month LPN program.
October started my 7th month.
We have completed Fumdamentals, Med/Surg I, and Med/SurgII.
Today we started Maternity and Pediatric Nursing.
My problem is we aren't getting clinical experience.
In fundamentals we had 4 different clinical instuctors, the outcome of that was making beds and taking blood pressure with 1 day with 1 out of the 4 instructors with the other 3 we had to sit and listen to their nursing stories for clinicals.
Med/Surg I we got on the floor one time and because the teacher called herself punishing us she made us clean a patient.
Med/Surg II we lost an instuctor who seemed to be about her business because my school sent us to a hospital without asking permission of the facility so of course we got kicked out. IN this case we ended up at a clinical site with another group of students needless to say we couldn't get on the floor 21 students with 1 teacher. Yesterday was the final only 4 people passed the class so they dropped 21 questions and as a result only 2 people failed out.
3 days out of the week we are supposed to be in clinicals but we are sent home early every time.
Im seriously considering leaving but I hate to waste all the time and money
What Do You Think About This Situation?

I think there is often a feeling "I'm not prepared" as graduation draws close.

But your situation is cause for much concern. You need to talk to the

head of your nusing program pronto. Obviously you will never learn everything

you need to in school/clinicals...it's a ongoing process..a lot comes with hands on experience after grad. However your situation makes me wonder how you will get through

your boards. Your school is doing a poor job of preparing you. Don't quit...

talk to someone....is it to late to transfer? Please check out your options

before quitting. If you don't get anywhere with the DON go to the school

administrator. How much longer do you have till graduation? Is this unusual

for this school? Seems to me they owe you some clinical time. You are

paying for an education to prepare you to pass the state boards. Your

school is greatly falling short of their obligation to you. I hope this works

I was extremly upset to learn that durning Fundementals that all you do is basic nursing assisstant things but that is at all schools I am also in LPN school and we are doing the same thing but as for leaving early and not getting time on the floor I just can't understand I live in Southeast La. and we still had to make up all of our classroom and cliinical hours hour by hour even if we still covered the material and this was after a major disaster KATRINA!!!! We were doing 10 hour days just to make up all of the time even with the fact that we had the horrible long hours our instructors that have to be the greatest MR.BELSER AND MS.BLADES they still would have never dropped that many test quetions our test questions are formatted like the NCLEX PN to prepare us throughout the entire course.. I WOULD MOST DEFINTELY GO TO THE DEAN !!!!!!!!

I have some of my pre-reqs and am currently working on more, but because I was in that LPN program I'm only taking two college courses but I plan on loading up in the spring.

I have some of my pre-reqs and am currently working on more, but because I was in that LPN program I'm only taking two college courses but I plan on loading up in the spring.

I feel for you. :sniff: You spend your past seven months in that program hoping to get your licence. I am sorry to hear about all the things you went through. But I am glad you have foung out now that your school is not accredited. Better now then after you graduated. :no:

How sickin' is that you were almost finished. Have you thought about finding another LPN program you could possibly just jump into and pick up where you left off and just make up the hours you are missing. I believe if memory serves me correctly (PNC) it is against the law to have a school that is not accredited. Well good luck anyway and keep me posted on your plans.

Yeah it will make you sick to know how close I was to the finish line. That school lets students know straight forward that what was gained at their school cannot be transferred to any other LPN school. The only way you can benifit is by passing your boards and taking a transition course in an RN program that will exempt you from a nursing course or 2 which you can get credit for. In order to do that you have to be licensed.
