How Long of a Wait to Get into an LVN Program?
I am enrolled in a tech college and the tuition is only about 500.00 a semester with 4 semesters. I applied in May and began classes in Aug.but I had origanally applied at a different tech college. When I took the entrance test I asked that they send my scores to all the tech. colleges within 30 miles and be put on the waiting list for all of them and I just went to the first school that had an openning. Talk to the student services office and see what options they offer. Private colleges are just to expensive personnally. One of my childhood friend is attending one and is in the same semester as myself and is having to pay aroyund 1400.00 a semester. HUGE difference explore your options before shelling out. MAKES YOU WONDER HOW THERE COULD BE SUCH A HUGE NURSING SHORTAGE WHEN THERE IS ALWAYS SUCH A LONG WAITING LIST TO GET INTO A NURSING PROGRAM.

NANDA list
This is a pretty good site http://www1.us.elsevierhealth.com/Evolve/Ackley/NDH6e/Constructor/#New I usually look up the pts. medical DX here and it gives you a list of nanda approved DX and then I take that and look up my intervention and rationals in the nursing dx book by Sparks and Taylor. I chose which ones are most related to my pt. and copy them straight from the book and have always gotten rave reviews from my instructors on how great my careplans are.Anyways Goooood Luck !!!!!!

Are we being phased out?
With the nursing shortage I don't really see how it would be possible to phase out LPNs. In Louisiana there are no restrictions on what an LPN can do you can be trained certified and then state approved to do anything an RN can do, but if you are gonna do that go back to school. Why would you want to do it and get paid less.

hello
Hello Drangonfly we have alot in common I am 24 and a mom a three in my second semester of lpn program in La. it really has not been as bad as I tought it would be.MED SURG is really a pain but still doing good, all questions are usally about a patient and the problems they are having, you have to use Maslows to figure which one is the best answer because they are usally a right. Once you have started let me know I have a format you can use for drug cards where all you do is copy and paste pretty much(if you don't have to hand write them) good luck:roll

Going Crazy in LPN School/Advice PLEASE
How sickin' is that you were almost finished. Have you thought about finding another LPN program you could possibly just jump into and pick up where you left off and just make up the hours you are missing. I believe if memory serves me correctly (PNC) it is against the law to have a school that is not accredited. Well good luck anyway and keep me posted on your plans.

Going Crazy in LPN School/Advice PLEASE
I was extremly upset to learn that durning Fundementals that all you do is basic nursing assisstant things but that is at all schools I am also in LPN school and we are doing the same thing but as for leaving early and not getting time on the floor I just can't understand I live in Southeast La. and we still had to make up all of our classroom and cliinical hours hour by hour even if we still covered the material and this was after a major disaster KATRINA!!!! We were doing 10 hour days just to make up all of the time even with the fact that we had the horrible long hours our instructors that have to be the greatest MR.BELSER AND MS.BLADES they still would have never dropped that many test quetions our test questions are formatted like the NCLEX PN to prepare us throughout the entire course.. I WOULD MOST DEFINTELY GO TO THE DEAN !!!!!!!! LOTS OF LUCK, Leigh:nono:

What can an RN do than an LPN can't?
I am in LPN school now and live in Southeast La. here an LPN is not limited by the state board as to what they can, but in order to do certain things like hang blood which really surprises me you must be trained by your facility and sumbit the info to the state board for approval, but there is no actual laundry list for LPN'S in La. As for RN being a waste of time I don't see how furthering your knowledge or training could be a waste of time.I am getting my LPN first so that I can work some and actually have a decent salary while being in school for my AD. I also think it will help me a great deal to actually understand the nursing process going into it as a PN.:)
