Going before the BON

Published

I was hoping to find someone who had gone before the board for eligiblity. I am diagnosed bipolar II and the board requires I come to a hearing to determine eligibility. Is there any advice out there for me?

This is quite different from the posts that we usually get here where someone has done something wrong and against the law. This is something that you have not done...

They will be wanting to evaluate you on an individual basis, and see how you handle different things. To see if stressful things will not make you very manic, etc.

Call your state's bar association and ask for the names of several attorneys who know and have represented before your BON. They are the best ones to advise you.

I know what you mean, how do you defend yourself against nature,lol... but perhaps going to nursing school for 12 months during which I was broke, raising 2 kids, had to let my car get repossessed, my mother passed away, and I made 4.0 first and 3rd semeter, and 3.75 in second speaks fot itself? if I was gonna break, I would have broken already..

Just an update.... I finally went before the BNE in Austin this week. I was approved to take my NCLEX exam. It really was not as bad as I thought it would be, however a classmate that went with me for her hearing was turned down. Our cases were totally different as mine was for depressive disorder and hers was a past conviction. Good luck to all who may have to go thru the declatory process.

Yay! Congrats to you!!!! :biggringi I feel for your classmate though. :o I have only heard positive stories about petitioning the board. I too have to go before them eventually, for a minor criminal past. I have been feeling very confident about it, but now your friend's story makes me worry. If you don't mind divulging, could you tell me what she was denied for? Feel free to PM me if you would feel more comfortable doing so. And I understand, if you don't feel right sharing at all. It would just help to put things in perspective, to know where I stand. You must be so excited, what a relief to have that behind you, huh? Well, good luck in all you do!

Take care!
