how to go about calling HR regarding an application

Published

Hello!

I have 2 open applications at a local hospital. One application has been open for about 2 weeks, the other for almost a week. I was planning on calling the hiring manager tomorrow to inquire about the status of my applications. If I get her voicemail I was going to leave a message. How does this sound to you guys?

"Hello my name is ------- and i have applied for 2 full time nursing positions, one on a medical surgical floor reference number XXXXX, as well as in the NICU reference number XXXXX. I am calling to inquire about the status of my application. I would love to schedule an interview with you to discuss my career goals at ::hospital name:: . I can be reached at (123) 555-5555 at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon."

what do you guys think? too wordy? too forward? Thanks!

I think you said it all very well. Short, sweet, brief and to the point.

Maybe you could leave a text address (I don't know what all those gadgets are) besides a phone number as well.

Good luck!

Just a word of advice - be sure to have your phone or gadgets close to answer immed or to return the call very quickly. Several posters here have missed calls and then had problems reaching their missed connections.

I'll leave my email as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

I always call shortly after applying if I haven't' heard yet. (Not for nursing jobs, since I'm not a nurse, but for every job I've ever had)

I always say "Hi, My Names Glycerine Jones, I applied for XYZ job opening and I am wondering if anyone has had a chance to go over it. I can be reached at 867-5309 and once again my name is Glycerine Jones, Thanks so much"

I think what you came up with it good, but a bit too form letter-ish, if that makes sense.

Good luck!

I had an interview and heard nothing for 2 weeks. I knew that I had nailed the interview and the manager wanted me. I was getting very discouraged. I called. the recruiter that was handling my case had to go on leave for an emergency and the others were playing catch-up. The apologized profusely and offered me the position right there on the phone! You never know what is going on at the other end, a follow-up call is appropriate and your script sounds good. Good Luck!
