Hi! Congrats on getting into GCC's nursing program! I just got my letter of acceptance in the mail yesterday too [: Did you get into the "Standard" or "Night/Weekend" program?
Thanks and congrats to you too!! I got into the standard program. What about you? I cant wait! Do you attend Glendale already? Do you know how many people are accepted into the program? Do you know if we are starting clinicals in the winter session already? or do we not start until the Spring semester? Sorry I have so many questions haha
Hey! I got into the Night/Weekend program. Yes, I was attending GCC already & took all my science pre-req.'s there this past school year. How about you? Were you already a GCC student?? I have no idea how many people were accepted into the program, but when I attended the Nursing Dept.'s info session over the summer - they said that the average number of applicants for the Spring is about 300 and only 24 students are actually admitted! According to the acceptance letter, we start school in the Winter intersession - on January 4th. I'm super excited -- go us!
Oh I just thought of a question, hehe! :wink2: Do you happen to know what room the orientation will be held in??

Hey kids, 4th semester here. You do not start clinicals in the introductory intersession. They usually accept 30 day and 30 weekend/evening students. Of those, you will probably lose at about 5 students total in the first 2 semesters. PM me if you have any questions!
Hi Vivasmom :wink2: Thanks so much for responding! My apologies, I'm new to the site & don't know what it means to "PM" someone, so I hope that responding to you here will work just as well.
First of all, I am wondering if you are a "Standard" or "Weekend/Evening" student? If you are an Evening/Weekend-er, how do the hours work? For example, do you have classes Monday-Friday evenings & clinicals on the weekends? I'm just curious as to how the 'scheduling' is.
Also, any advice on how to survive my first semester in the program? Is there a particular study schedule you stick by that works, etc?
How was your experience purchasing nursing textbooks? I've heard that students purchase a mass number of books their first semester & this burns a hole in their wallet - but the good thing is that these books are used throughout the entire program. Is this true?
Any other information you can offer me about the GCC nursing program would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry for all the questions! & Congrats on getting so far into the program -- this is your LAST semester, you must be soo excited! To think that you made it & survived, gives me hope of succeeding as well!
Ok so I just noticed it doesn't say what room orientation will be in! We should ask when we take in our intent to enroll form. Have you taken yours? I am going tomorrow.
I am not a GCC student so I hope they will give me my ID # before the deadline to turn in the intent form!! Do you know how long it takes to get ur ID #?
And WOW 30 students each!!! We are lucky!!!! :)
I have a question now too.....hahaha When do you take the background & drug tests and physical stuff? Is it before the winter session or during? R they expensive? Just want to be ready moneywise you know?
Thanks for the info Vivasmom!!! Gongrats on getting through the semesters!! You must be so excited!!
Hey Talie15!
No I haven't turned in my intent form yet -- I'm going to on Monday. Unfortunately, I don't remember how long it takes to get a GCC id #.
If you go on the GCC Nursing website & click on the 'Entering Nursing Students' link, they have a list of text books that we will need for the winter intersession and there is also info about the fingerprinting requirement > $80.
As for background & drug tests and physicals, I think we will find out more about that during the info session. :)
