Can't wait to hear that!
I'm trying to lose some of this "college student/nursing school/I'm getting older and fatter" weight, and I was just wondering...
For all of you nurses who work three 12-hour shifts and workout regularly, do you workout before or after work, or not at all on days that you work?

well i used to do 12's on nights and took turns working out when i could fit it in. sometimes if it wasn't a bad night i could work out in the a.m. sometimes i would go straight home and then work out after i got my sleep in.
it takes a bit of juggling but the main thing is to get 3-4 days of exercise in a week. i must admit, it's easier now that i work 5 days. but if you want any tips, feel free to pm, i have recently lost 90 lbs and feel great.

I have a different twist for recent weight loss: when I was on days, I gained because there was always food in the breakroom and there was time for a scheduled lunch break. I gained weight on the goodies.
Went to night shift, have NO time to eat (ok, if I'm lucky, I have a granola bar on the run) and there's no time to break, either. I've lost more than I gained on days, and still losing :)
I eat on my nights off, LOL!

I used to mostly go in the mornings after I got off, but sometimes I found that going to work out for about an hour before work made me feel just FANTASTIC, and I'd have a good night. :) So, when I actually had time, I would do it that way.

Let's see...Here is my workout schedule. If I work 3 12's in a row I will get up super early the first 12 and do 30 minutes on our treadmill with hand weights. I will come home the night of the second 12 and TRY to get at least 45 minutes on the treadmill or take the dog on a 45 minute walk. Day 3? forget it:rolleyes: On my days off I alternate between the gym (hour cardio/class then 20min wieghts) and running (at least 3miles-sometimes 5) Yes, I am completely addicted. The problem is that I LOVE to eat. And I have worked out like this for so long that it no longer drops the pounds the way I would like:(

I saw Bob Green on Oprah the other day..he is a personal trainer to the stars...and Oprahs too......he says you have to eat every few hours to get your metabolism on the right track....if your body knows it's getting food it won't hold onto stuff thinking it is maybe going to starve......and regular exercize like 3-4x a week for 30 minutes..even just walking ..is good........go on her site I think he posted his program and even his meal plan that has tons of stuff you can interchange...... and also...some trainers have said it is all emotional reasons why some people are heavy.....and to find out what in your life is going on ..such as getting to the root of the problem so to speak.........I truly believe that because think about it.... even Oprah said you can tell when she is going through stressful times because that's when she starts getting big again..........anyway I am sure you'll do great once you find what works for you...good luck!!!:wink2:
