Gift ideas for staff nurses/instructor

Published

I would like the opinion of you floor nurses who work on the floor with "us students" Next week is our last week and would like to buy a gift for the staff of nurses that we worked along side of. ( Some were very helpful and welcoming others didn't want to be bothered with us) but oviously we cannot single anyone out and will buy a gift for the floor. Is there any ideas that you all can suggest that they will appreciate?

Also, Our nursing instructor was wonderful. There are only 7 of us in our clinical group and want to give her a gift from us. She loves gardening, travels to italy every summer. She is an NP and teaches 3 clinical groups.. about 50 years old... Any suggestions?

Thanks for any ideas

Edible arrangement for the staff nurses (they are always received well!!) and a maybe a letter to the unit director about how great the nurses are. For your instructor maybe a gift card to a home improvement store that has a gardening center.

A fresh fruit/home made muffin tray for the unit.....gift card for coffee/dining for the instructor. I never read the cards..........

Be sure of your school policy regarding receipt of gifts. Our instructors are not allowed to receive gifts (certificates, etc.), unless it can be shared with the entire staff (food). Seems silly to everyone, students and instructors alike, but administration doesn't want the appearance of buying partiality.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

In my previous clinical rotations, we gave a thank-you card for both the staff and our instructor. We usually brought Dunkin Donuts, Einsten bagels or Panera bagels for the staff. For my instructors, usually a Starbucks giftcard was the way to go :) For my critical care instructor, we actually got her a gift card to get a mani/pedi :) She's kind of going through a stressful time in her life and critical care can be stressful on it's own, sometimes! She loved it! Her previous group go her a tote bag with her name, RN, MSN on it and she LOVED it!

My favorite gift as a clinical instructor is a photo of the clinical group together and a handwritten note :) It is thoughtful, and I know of no schools that would forbid it. Some schools do forbid other gifts such as gift certificates, etc. Another option is a donation in the instructor's name to a charity of his/her liking, or to a scholarship fund.

Staff nurses- I couldn't agree more with the fruit suggestion.

Thanks, they both are great ideas!
