getting a nurse degree in the US being a former graduated nurse in a foreign college

Is there any difference compared to someone leaving high school if someone with a foreign nurse degree attempt to get a US nurse degree?

Any chance to get some kind of credits for the previous course in another country? So maybe you would have to take a kind of refresher course and get your US degree?

I know this seems to be much harder than going through CGFNS, but I`m just wondering how hard it would be to do something like that... if even possible!

You need to be a bit more specific as I'm having a hard time trying to figure out your question. Do you currently have a RN license in another country and are trying to find out if you can take a refresher course instead of taking the CGFNS?

something like that... what I`m trying to understand if it would be possible to use my foreign degree and kinda use that for transfer paperwork to a US college and then from there get my US degree in less than the usual 4 years, because I would use my technical nursing class hours as a reciprocity for the US college technical classes. I understand I would have to go through all the US specifics but at least the technical stuff is pretty much the same...

unfortunately this would probably require me to go through the CES process as well, unless the college accepts something other than the CES CGFNS process, which most of them don`t.

If you already have a BSN from another country you may not need to go back to school and take classes. Which ever state you wish to work in you would have to research the BRN website for international graduates and go from there. I hope this helps. Good Luck

did you finish nursing school or are you trying to transfer credits from outta the country to a nursing school in the US??

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

If you have your degree from your own country why are you wanting to go back and do it over again?

I actually have a degree, just wondering how hard would be to get a US degree as well and not having to go through the CGFNS process, but seems pretty clear that this would be longer and harder than the CGFNS

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

Do you intend to work in the US and do you have a visa/green card/ permit to work in the US?

If you do wish to work here and do not permit, that is where your major hold up wi be.

i think i understand what you're saying-- you already have a degree, but you want to have a degree in the US also?

yes it's easier to just go through the state requirements and apply for a license rather than trying to get a US Degree. Plus it's quite unnecessary.

yeah, people here at the board in Idaho are really trying to help and make me understand the requirements (their website doesn`t have much information) but I was able to talk directly to the person who evaluate the CGFNS and International nurses documentation...

btw, I do not need any VISA requirement since my husband employer is pursuing a greencard and I currently have a L2 VISA which allows me to work if I have an EAD which is pretty simple to get.
