Getting hired as an RN EC grad

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I'm not quite there yet, (almost done with the LVN-RN program) but have a hunch many major hospitals in this area are not hiring Excelsior College RNs. I'm curious, has anyone come across this in Northern California (which is where I live). If so, will they consider 1-2 yrs. experience or are there company rules about not hiring us? Any comments are most welcome. Thanks.

I'll let the moderators take over from here but, I'd like to just say one thing: I am not the OP. Logging in on multiple accounts is prohibited. If I had been doing that, I'm sure the moderators would be able see it was be coming from the same IP address and I would have been banned a long ago.

I figured since you were asking me to respond to so many questions on the other thread, I thought you were enjoying a spirited debate ... if you didn't want me to respond then, I'm not sure why you were asking me so many questions, which kept the discussion going.

Anyway ... in the interest of peace ... I'll bow out for now.

P.S. A lot of what I and others said on this thread applies to new EC grads. I don't think any of this applies to EC RN's who already have a lot of experience.

May I interject here, as an EC grad?

Lizz has been here for a while now, and while I do not always agree with her opinions, etc. regarding EC (we have had some rather spirited debates in the past about this), I haven't seen anything untoward in her posts on this thread. She is simply offering 1 viewpoint in response to the OP's question. I think the OP will probably be served best in getting a well-rounded variety of answers from both sides of the fence before he/she makes some important educational/career choices.

I highly doubt Lizz is a troll, (even if she is one-sided on this issue, and maybe a little more personally invested in this issue than we would all like)...lol. She wouldn't have lasted here as long as she has, and she has contributed to other topics here. Having personally PM'd back and forth with her on other topics, she really isn't all that bad, guys.

As for the LVN-RN question: There is no EC bridge program. Their RN program assumes some kind of medical background based on their admission criteria. They kind of lump LPNs/RTs/paramedics into the same entry level, I believe.

Is it just me or does it seem like Liz and the OP are tag teaming EC without providing authroities? Also does EC now have an LVN-RN program as reported by the OP...I've never heard of this term used with any student of EC, although I've been out of the loop for awhile.
I must say that I feel there are trolls in the area. Time to put up or shut up. As an EC grad, working in CA with no history of every having one problem getting a job, I would really like to know the name of any hospital that wont hire EC graduates. Please name the hospital so I can personally verify, then forward this info to EC legal council. Otherwise, please slither away into your hole and stop providing misinformation about how EC grads can't get hired by certain facilities in California.

It's clear on the other thread that you have an agenda related to EC. Your behavior is unfair, reckless and does a disservice to every EC grad, student, faculty and every organization that employs the 6,000 + EC grads working here in California.

Sorry to be so blunt, but at least one troll has been doing nothing but slamming EC with impunity on another thread.

frankly, it seems there is more to this than is being presented. i'm an ec grad (the paint is still drying), and i'm going to let this topic go. i think there's enough in the sticky for a prospective student to read in making a decision regarding excelsior.

it's just not mentally healthy to obsess online, and i'm catching myself falling into that trap on this topic. i've said what i have to say, and i'm not giving this any more energy.

Trauma, I have found myself in that very same situation in the past. I agree with you 100%.

:yeahthat:

thanks everyone for the responses. this really started out as an innocent question as i'm rather green here on allnurses. i realize now that, as in most hires, it is rather a personal thing and varies widely, within reason. because my username is quite revealing, i hesistate to mention facility names. when i do get my ec rn, i know one thing, my future options will be vastly broadened...as evidenced by the ec rn responses. thank you again fellow nurses.

i would like to remind people to debate issues/topics and not attack each other. if you feel heated, the best thing to do is get up and walk away....come back and type/speak only with a cool and clear head.

hopefully, the thread can get back on-course and simply answer the questions of the original poster. please, keep posts within the terms of service so no one jeopardizes his or her membership here.

thanks for understanding and enjoy the thread.
