Getting a contact info on a nurse manager

Published

hey guys, i am applying for a job and i would really like to by pass HR and speak directly to the nursing managers of the hiring floors because i think its time to grab the bull by the horns lol. PROBLEM is that on the job openings, the floors are not stated there, all it says is med/surg or ortho med/surg. it is a HCA and memorial hermann hospitals in houston texas. do i call the operator and ask for a med surg floor or is there an easier way to get their contact info. Any reply will be highly appreciated. OR, if you know the names of the nursing recruiters and number, can u pls pm me. THANKS :):):):):)

If you don't know the specific floor, I don't think you'll be able to get info on the manager. The only way I can think of is to ask HR what floor the position is on, and if they give you an answer (and they may or may not -I think they are vague for a reason) then you can call the operator and ask for the manager of unit 3X or whatever it is.

Unless you have a inside contact those days are long gone. The reason for this is that when you send an application to HR they do a pre screening process now before they pass the application on to the manager. They check your license status to see if you have have any action against your license and they may check previous employers (I don't know). Some check to see what you have posted on Facebook and Twitter. Your application will usually not get to the manager until at least some check of the information on your application is done. Make sure your information is accurate, especially criminal information. Any false information on an employment application is grounds for rejection of that application or grounds for future termination. Even if you do manage to get to the manager first, you will still have to go through the checking process via HR and the final hiring decision is made with HR only after a complete reference and background check. (Some facilities may be more lax in this area but hospital are pretty firm on this. There is great liability to any facility that does not go through a full check before hiring any employee, especially anyone giving direct patient care).

thanks for the reply guys. i had a feeling, i needed some kind of inside connection or physically visit the site. its just that i am in a different state and i wanted to call the floors directly and see if there is a way they can get in contact with HR to put me through. :-)

Even if you were to succeed in reaching a nurse manager, I'm not sure what you would accomplish. He/she would know nothing about you other than what you say (which is not verified), and an application is still necessary - which means going through HR and the facility's employment process.

In addition to what previous posters have said it may actually be detrimental to your career that you tried to "go around the barricades" to get in. It may flag you as someone who did not want to play by the rules and decided to ignore them. Have faith- it will come.

@Dorito, i guess faith is actually the best thing to have because i just got a call from one of the HCA facilities like right now:yeah::yeah::yeah:.. hope i get a second call for an interview. thanks guys for the reply u all nurses members are far too helpful and far too kind :redpinkhe

What about contacting nurse recruitment directly? I have found that often times that has worked for me in the past, because even though HR is looking for exactly what is stated on the job posting, you may have background that can be used in lieu of what is stated, and because HR is a clerical type position vs a clinical position, they would have no idea...I just tried to put in an application for a research position, and it stated that you had to have x number of years of clinical experience and x number of years in research. It asked those questions before it even let you fill out the application (HR way of weeding you out). I've never formally done research--so I called Nurse Recruitment, explained that I have been involved through my work as a clinical nurse in research projects and I had x number of years in that specialty area--and requested that I be considered as a candidate. They weren't even aware of HR's "weeding questions" and faxed me an application yesterday to fax back to them.

I'm not sure that going directly to the nurse manager is always the best option, unless you know someone that already works there and can vouch for you, but nurse recruitment is always an option. I don't even think I've ever interviewed with HR, I've only ever interviewed with Nurse Recruitment and then the manager of the unit that I was interested in working for.
