Getting your car to 1st duty station

I have a question regarding getting my car from New York to Fort Bragg. I have a 2001 Saturn that I wouldn't depend on to get me safely to Fort Bragg after a 9 hour drive from NYC. How do you get your car to your 1st duty station if you will be flying to OBLC and they are going to fly you directly to your duty station. Can you request the movers to also take your car and place it in storage? This may seem like a silly question, but I do not have the financial means to buy a new car right now. After a year on Active duty I will be better prepared financially, but right now it isn't going to happen and my car isn't going to make it through a 9 hour drive.:crying2: It will be good for local driving to and from the Walmart in North Carolina, and will make it another year, but after that I will be pushing my luck. Any suggestions? Or is anyone else not driving to OBLC, but want to take their car to their 1st duty station. They only give us 10 days to find housing and get situated and I do not want to waste 3 days trying to drive my car to NC and risk breaking down. Thanks!!!

Well, the military will not move your car for you unless you go OCONUS. as much as it sucks, you're gonna have to use your own time and means to get our car there. Most people use their travel pay an drive because its significantly cheaper than having a company ship it. There are some websites where yoy can get quotes for the cost of shipping your vehicle, but they can get pricey. Another option vwoild be to find a friend to store it at their place until you have the time and means to do move it. Its a crapoy deal, but bits doable. (I just PCSed and drove 48 hours straight with a 2001!) Good luck! :)
