HI, IAM SAVIAN. I WONDER IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME. I AM AN NCLEX PASSER AND IAM JUST WAITING FOR MY INTERVIEW DATE WHEN RETROGRESSION KICK IN. AND TO THIS DATE NO ONE CAN ACTUALLY TELL WHEN IT WILL BE LIFTED.
MY PROBLEM IS HOW TO GET A SSS NUMBER EVEN A TEMPORARY ONE TO COMPLY TO THE REQUIREMENT OF CALIFORNIA BOARD OF NURSING TO APPLY FOR MY RN LICENSE. I AM STILL IN THE PHILIPPINES AND I DON'T KNOW IF IAM EVEN ALLOWED TO GET ONE. THE PROBLEM IS MY NCLEX EXAM ACCORDING TO THE CALIFORNIA BOARD OF NURSING HAS A 3 YEARS VALIDITY ONLY IF I WON'T APPLY FOR A LICENSE WITHIN THE SAID PERIOD MY EXAM WILL BE WASTED.
I NEED A SSS NUMBER TO BE ABLE TO APPLY...ANY SUGGESTION PLEEEEESE.

Sorry to tell you but until you have completed the immigration process and are in the US ready to work, you will not be able to get a Social Security Number. They do not issue temporary ones, they are issued by the US Govt for life and are permanent.

You will not be issued a license by CA until you are in the US and have documents that will permit you to work. The SSN# is only available when you apply for it in person at the Social Security Administration office and with proper documentation to get it. You cannot get one when you are in the US on a toursit visa either.

Please take the time to read the stickies at the top of the forum.

You cannot begin to work in the US until you actually have a SSN# either. When you submit one to CA BRN, they will issue you a SSN#. You do not need one before then.

(And p.s.: Please do not type if all caps, it means that you are yelling or shouting in bulletin board talk and is hard on the eyes.)

It's a bit difficult to make an application especially if we do it online since, most of them are asking for SSN which unfortunately I dont have since CA BON does not issue one. What should be the next move should I take, now that I passed the NCLEX? - i mean, as far as SSN is concern.

There is not one thing that you can do until you go thru the immigration process and are in the US ready to begin work. And that goes for most states, very few actually issue a license until the nurse is in the US. For the few that do issue a license without, you will need to have a SSN# in hand to endorse.

SSN# are issued by the Social Security Adminsitration, which is federal. It is not issued by any state.

You can go ahead and get a job, and go thru everything else. No foreign nurse has a SSN# until they arrive in the US to begin work legally.

You are able to apply for licensure with every single state in the US without having a SSN#. The issue will be that many will not issue a license without the SSN#. You only need to pass the NCLEX-RN exam or the CGFNS exam to begin the immigration process once you have an employer. License is not required.
