I was told there is no computer charting system available that is adequate for long term care facilities. My husband is an applications developer, and is interested in creating one. Can anyone tell me if they currently use computer charting? If so, is it working well for your facility? I understand that there is a lot of redundant charting that goes on in LTC to meet Medicare and other requirements. Let me know what those of you in the field think. Thanks!

There is one in my area (no name) that has been using computer charting. How well it's working out? apparently ok because they're still computerized. Ours still use pen and paper.

I know HCA uses Meditech, as for long-term facilities i am not sure, but I can guarantee you there is one out there. Since I use paper charting at my facility you can guess how I feel about computerized charting. I have used computerized charting in the past on a telemetry floor. I used to like computerized charting but some boundaries still exist in its use, availability of stations, common technical problems, user unfriendly, time consuming, and lack of knowledge about information systems on the practitioner's part.

Have computer charting where I work. Like it. It's updated by IT from time to time to reflect assessment description and accuracy. Can't wait for physician computer order entry which is on the horizon.

There are lots of different computer charting programs. I used on at a facility 12 years ago...the owner was forward thinking. I think it was called GeneCare...did MDSs, Care Plans, and shift notes too.

MDI. They are usable!
