Can anyone who has been admitted to the nursing program at Ga State tell me how long after the application cut-off date did you learn whether or not you were admitted to the program? Also, did you receive a letter or were you able to view it through the GA State system? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey Georgiap!

I really hope you get accepted b/c GSU really has a good nursing program! Since I am a traditional student, I started clinicals in my second semester, during Basic Skills and Assessment (Spring 08). During this clinical experience you are really pretty much doing basic care (baths, hygiene, etc.). Toward the end of the semester (after you pass the Med Calculation Test w/100%) you will begin to administer meds.

You can take courses over the summer, but you have to get approval from your faculty advisor beforehand. Some of the classes are not offered in the summer, but you may be able to get a few of them out of the way which always helps.

Unfortunately, you heard right about the nursing program being harder. I think most people begin to see a drop in their GPA during the second semester w/Pharmacology. Pharm is difficult in that there are so many drugs to memorize. Quite a few people in my class had a hard time w/Med-Surg last semester as well (me included-but I managed to squeeze a B out of it!). The first semester (if you are Traditional) should not be hard at all though. This was the only time that I made straight A's since being accepted into the program; and no, I did not have to interview.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Good luck again and keep me posted on your acceptance status when you receive it!

Thanks Curlygirl for all your wonderful info. I see that you are in the traditional program but I have applied to the accelerated one. I expect the work load to be very heavy but What if anything else have you heard about it. I hope that the decisions will be out soon cause I really am anxious to learn if I will be starting next fall or not.

Curlygirl,

Another question!!! I am wondering still about my chances of getting admitted...and I'm probably worrying more than I need to. I am applying for Spring 2010 and I know the application is due in October. I will be finishing up the last of my pre-reqs in October...Biol II, Anat II and Micro. Do you think this will negatively affect my ability to get accepted? Thanks so much for all your help and correspondance with this!

Thanks curlygirl for all of your wonderful info! I believe decisions go out in March so I hope to find out soon! Do you know if the status will be available on GoSolar or do they just send the letter to your mailing address?

Hey Curlygirl, just found I got accepted to the nursing program for fall 2009! Just received the letter. I'm sooooo excited! So I might have some questions later on :) Thanks!

Congrats Georgiap9 girl! When did you send your application stuff in? You are lucky to have heard and no longer have to worry

Thanks!!!! I turned my application in about a week ago. It was definitely a relief! I didn't expect to hear so soon. Did you apply? I wish you the best of luck.

I have applied but for the accelerated program as I have completed two years of college already. Hope to hear soon but who knows, I dont know but one other girl who is applying to the ACE program so I dont know what the time table for them (the School) is.

Hmmm, well I'm pretty sure I received my letter really early. I haven't heard of anyone else who has received a decision back yet so don't worry . Good luck!

Congrats Georgiap9!! :yeah:

If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know!!

Gander,

The accelerated program is very intense. From what I'm told from other ACE students is that the first two semesters are the most difficult. If accepted, you will begin clinicals during your first semester. I also understand that you will not have a life for the next four semesters (but it will def pay off later!!). If you find that the ACE program is too fast-paced for you, you can always drop down to traditional (a couple of students went this route) w/o any probs. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have any specific details or questions that you need answered feel free to ask (if I don't know the answer, I know a couple of ACE students that I could ask).

Woodchip,

I don't think it would negatively affect you, especially if your grades in Anat I & Bio I are A's. When I was accepted I was finishing Organic Chem and Micro, so you can still get accepted if you have not finished your pre-reqs yet. I really think that your previous grades, NET score and essay play a much bigger role.

I completely know what you're going through. I remember running to the mailbox everyday looking for that darn letter!! Good luck to you! Let me know if you have any other questions!
