Georgia State Nursing

Can anyone who has been admitted to the nursing program at Ga State tell me how long after the application cut-off date did you learn whether or not you were admitted to the program? Also, did you receive a letter or were you able to view it through the GA State system? Thanks for any help you can give.

I waited about 2 months to receive my letter after applying. I received a letter stating that I was put on the waiting list (I was devastated!!) and then about 2 weeks later the administrator called me by phone and told me that I had been accepted. It was the worst waiting time ever!! I don't believe the acceptance status was available on GOSOLAR when I applied.

Good luck to you! FYI - GSU has an awesome program. It's tough (just like any other nursing program I'm sure) but the instructors are top notch!!

Thanks for your reply! Do you remember how long after the Final date for applying your letter came? I have heard that many people hear about two or three weeks later. Are you currently in the program?

curlygirl,

If you don't mind me asking...what were your grades in the sciences, your gpa and net score?

:)

I don't remember how long after the final application acceptance date that I received my letter. I do know that some people received theirs weeks before I did and the people that I know that received theirs earlier than me all got in.

Yes, I am currently in the program. The program is set up for traditional students to do 6 semesters (T1 - T6)and accelerated students to do 4 semesters (A1 - A4). I am currently in my T4 semester.

hi woodchip,

I don't mind at all! A&P I - B, A&P II - A, Chem 1151/1152 - A's, Micro - B

My overall G.P.A. at the time was 3.26

My composite score was a 78 (ranked 74th percentile) on the net

Curlygirl,

Thanks so much for your response. That helps a TON! Two more quick questions!

I plan to take Biol I and II instead of Chem I and II. Do you think this makes a difference in my getting accepted? Chemistry SCARES me!

Do you like the program there? Are your classmates nice? How are the instructors? And...what are your job prospects when you graduate?

Thanks so much for answering my questions!

:)

woodchip,

I doubt it makes a difference b/c the prerequiste requirements listed either one as acceptable. I think your success in the class is what really counts. However, chemistry really wasn't that bad (but I like chemistry though!!!).

I really like the program. There are some classes that are more difficult than others. I like that the program is challenging, yet it is designed for you to succeed.

You pretty much go through the whole program w/the same group of people, so you really get to know your classmates. As far as the instructors are concerned...Every single last one of my instructors have shown that they really care and want you to succeed. They make themselves available after class & during their office hours. They will take the time to explain things that weren't clear during lecture, etc.

I hear that the prospect for a job after graduating is still pretty good in ATL. I did hear that the Ga BON is short staffed so it may be a delay in sitting for the NCLEX though. This may very well be fixed by the time you graduate though. Also, From those that I knew who have already graduated, I am told to start applying for jobs before the beginning of my last semester. I have known several people who had already had a job lined up for them before they actually graduated and sat for the NCLEX!!!

Good luck to you! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!!

Hey! I applied to the fall 09 nursing program at Georgia State University and have a quick question. I am only a freshman and have a 4.0 (first semester) and an 86 on my NET. I'm doing my second semester right now (all the second semesters of my classes). I know they tell freshman to apply after the first semester, but are we penalized for not having the second semester of classes done? Will they only offer you conditional acceptances? Or is it possible for freshman to get a formal acceptance as long as they pass the classes they are taking now?

I do believe that you would get a conditional letter of acceptance, but don't quote me because I'm not totally sure. You would not be penalized, but do keep in mind that there are some applicants that have already completed the second semester and all of the pre-reqs which makes it so much more competitive. However, with your GPA and NET score, I would say that you definitely have a good shot at being accepted. Good luck to you!!

Thanks so much curlygirl!! Yeah, I do understand that which is why I worked so hard to get that 4.0 and stay on the top of the stack if you see what I mean. I knew if I had a lower GPA and not all the courses completed, it would not look as great. My application is in and I'm hoping for the best! GA state has been my first pick since high school years and I know it gets more and more competitive every year so hopefully I'll get in. I have a few questions I'm hoping you can answer. I do not know any upper level nursing students and I'm studying so much I never get a chance to meet any. 1) What year did you start clinicals? 2) Can I take elective classes in the summers to lower down the course loads? 3) I have heard it is harder once you get in the nursing program, do most people have a drop in GPA once they get in?

Thanks again!!

Also, one more thing, did they interview you?
