I'm not sure if it costs anything, but I believe it is unpaid. Have you contacted EC to ask them? The state boards office is very helpful: [email protected]. As I understand it, if you didn't have the required clinicals as an LPN student, you'd have to complete 700 hours.

I don't have any personal knowledge about this, but I recall seeing threads on this topic in the past which included some mention of some GA hospitals people had found to be willing to take them for preceptorships (and, IIRC, the hospitals were charging people for this). I'll bet you could find those threads with the "Search" function.

I wasn't aware that ec had a state board office. I looked on the ga board site last night regarding the preceptor hours and if I remember correctly, it said that if you have at least 3 years experience, you will have to complete 350 or 360 preceptor hours and if the nurse has less than 3 3years experience, they will have to complete 700!:madface:I also saw where (under the boards discretion) you can get a temporary permit to obtain the needed clinical hours. As for being paid for the preceptorship, im not worried about that and haven't had it come across my mind because its "clinical" just like if you were in school. Im gonna check out ec stateboards to see if they can clear all this foolishness up cause I gotta do something. This mess is driving me bananas and I cant have that! :no:

Update! I had a live chat with multiple people from the college and they stated.....AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE ENTIRE PROGRAM INCLUDING THE CPNE, you submit all of your documents to the board for licensure by examination and they respond back, then you will know how many, if any, additional clinical hours will be required to sit for the NCLEX. I don't know ya'll....I'm leary about GA. How does anybody afford this STRICTLY OUT OF POCKET??!! If I do a payment plan on the enrollment, that's 166/mo not including the student fees of like 450, and your tests of 305 or 405???? IJS....its getting pretty expensive and I haven't even sent in the app. Should I just throw caution to the wind and worry about how to pay for this as it comes instead of being so much of a worry bug????? Advice please!!

I've worked with plenty of LPNs over the years who were going to school (RN) part-time or full-time while working full-time as LPNs, and paying out of pocket as they went, or worked full-time and as much OT as they could get for a while in order to save up the money to be able to afford a reasonably priced CC RN program. Have you checked for what local "brick & mortar" programs may be available in your area that have a part-time LPN->RN program that may be less expensive and more manageable for you?

I've decided after talking to my husband that I'm JUST GOING TO DO IT! I'm apply and send in my transcripts for evaluation and do the program and let the chips fall where they may. I just finished clarifying more information via live chat with ec. I'm noticeably nervous and anxious. I have analyzed this every which way I think I can. If the board says I have to do the clinical hours, then I just have to do them; I may gleefully find out in the end that they may say I don't have to take them. I just don't know. Now, I just have to order my LPN school official transcript; I just opened the last one I had trying to match up what I was seeing on the board website....so now it's officially unofficial! I wonder if they'll still take it? LOL! Cant hurt to try!:) I'd still like to possibly hear from someone here in GA that had to go through the preceptor/clinical hours to give me a little insight on what roadblocks/difficulties that I may run into later on this year.

I just talked with EC today also and cleared up some mindless info. I know I will have to do 480 hrs because I havent worked at no Acute Care. I start my transition class tomorrow and hopefully will take the exam by the middle of Feb. Have you started that class yet. Thats the only class you take without being enrolled in EC. And if you haven't been an LPN longer than 5 years you can also waive another class so that will leave you with only 7 classes instead of 8.

Hello everyone and happy new year to you all! I recently started a thread on the general discussion page about having difficulty in going to my local cc to begin my bridge to RN due to my being denied student loans and not qualifying for pell grants (my only child is grown). I began looking into EC but was leary due to the requirements for the bon regarding additional preceptor/clinical hours. I contacted someone who works for the bon and she wasn't any help at all; instead of answering my question, she just forwarded me information that was already posted on the bon website, which I'd already seen which prompted me to call the board in the first place to have my question answered. With this all said, I have been working as a LTC/skilled rehab nurse consecutively since 2006. During my LPN program, we did LTC (mostly), mother/baby, surgical (observation), detox clinicals. At no time did we ever do med/surg clinical let alone have a class devoted to the subject. So, how many clinical hours do I have to do, where can I do them, and most importantly, HOW MUCH DOES THIS ALL COST????? How do you find out which set of additional clinical hours you have to do to satisfy the board to move to the CPNE and sit for the NCLEX I have found the GA board to be unhelpful and vague at best. I just want to go to school to get my RN but with finances tight, I know going this route is gonna be a serious financial strain but things cant and wont get better until I get more education to bring in more money. Getting another job isn't the answer. Sorry this is so long but thanks to everyone for all the help and direction that is provided.

I worked in Decatur, Ga from 2001-2006 with a LPN who after several yrs completed this program online however Ga was not allowing her to sit for RN boards.To make the long story short she tested in either South or North Carolina(sorry don't remember which one) received her Rn license then she applied for a Ga license..

Did you actually talk to someone at the board or did you look it up on the RN page about your clinical hours? What class are you talking about waiving? Ive been a LPN for 7 years in Feb. As far as starting transitions, I haven't. Ive been so preoccupied with if Im going to do the program or not, dealing with the costs, and sending my LPN and high school transcript, that I hadn't thought about it. This may be a stupid question but, where do you get the information to start studying the class? How many (if any) pre-req's do you have to take? Im sure I have ALOT to take. I know for certain that I wont have to take gen psychology, English, or developmental psych. How often do you plan to test?

can't you take your boards in another state and then apply to GA for an endorsed license? they would probably check to see if you had the clinical hours.
