ASN/ADN do not get hired in Georgia??

A friend of mine says that ADN/ASN do not get a lot of job opportunities in Georgia, is this true? I am in the process of getting ADN and I wanted to do it to start working sooner at any hospital in Atlanta. Georgia State has this RN to MSN program for ADN graduates with a minimum of 2 years of experience trying to pursue better options in the work setting and I plan on taking it after a few years of working. Is it true that I will not be able to receive a career at any hospital with an ADN? Is it a struggle for those who have an ADN/ASN??

You would need to check the RN job qualifications of each hospital/location you want to work at if you want to verify if an ADN is or is not valid. If that doesn't suffice, get in touch with their nurse recruiter.

This is not true. My ADN class graduated in December 2017 and out of 40 something, all but 1 has a job. The 1 who doesn't is only due to waiting on her spouses job relocation. Just about each of us had our jobs 2-3 months prior to graduation. We all entered into Nurse Residency programs with Wellstar, Grady, Northside, Tanner and Piedmont.

I disagree with your friend. I'm in an ASN program right now and I've gotten offers already for Summer Residencies. Many of my peers have also been offered residency placement at hospitals in and out of the perimeter. I personally think you shouldn't worry about job placement that much. ADN/ASN students have to take the same NCLEX as everyone else so don't feel discouraged if you chose to go this route. ❤️

From research I've noticed that many hospitals in Georgia that offer new grad residency programs will state bachelors preferred. Which definitely means you still have an opportunity to get into a hospital. I think knowing how to market yourself and networking is extremely important in the nursing field.

I can't speak for Atlanta, but plenty of ADN-prepared nurses work in other parts of Georgia where I have lived (Savannah, Augusta).
