Hello! I am an applicant for the nursing program at Georgia Highlands College for Spring 2011. I was just wondering if there was anyone else on here that is hoping to be accepted to the college as well. Does anyone know the typical schedule, cost, etc.? What were the average scores on the nursing worksheets that were accepted last spring and for this coming Fall 2010 semester?
Hello reannen! I'm soo glad I am not the only one still in the process of applying. I am still waiting on my trasfer evaluation...it has been three weeks so hopefully it will be done soon. I am sure they have been busy with enrollment and what not. You may want to call or email the nursing department. From what I understand, you cannot enter the program in Spring if you do not have your prerequisites completed prior to the start date. I believe this is because students who enter Spring term do not have summers off to take extra non-nursing courses. I am new to GA, so not completely familiar, but it might be worth calling them. Not trying to break some bad news, just wouldn't want you to rush around and pay for applying if you will have to wait until fall.
About admissions...I have no idea the cost of the program, books, or how many students they accept. All I really know is that they use the worksheet scores to select new students, and that books were expensive. Another thread was talking about getting them on amazon for 600, or over a thousand at the bookstore. It was also mentioned however, that these books carry on throughout the nursing program.
Well, I am happy to hear you already knew the courses had to be completed by Spring! I know that would be disappointing to find out after applying...so glad you will be able to get them finished up! From what I hear, there are not too many people who have a prior bachelor's degree that do not get in. People have been selected for the nursing program with scores lower than 1100...which means our automatic award of 1100 points should be very beneficial. Very thankful for this! Good luck to you! Cross your fingers...I am still waiting on my transfer evaluation for my science courses!!!
Ok, I have gotten some information regarding costs for the nursing program. Granted, this out line is from a few years ago, but I think it gives a nice estimate for in-state students, which I am not. =(
Per Semester Tuition: $977.00
Total Program Cost: $3908.00
Uniforms: $120.00 each
Shoes: about $45.00
Id and Patches: $16.00
Assessment Kits: $103.00
Books: 2344.00
Looks like books are killer, but this is a boostore estimate rather than amazon, chegg, etc.
I was wondering....I am still waiting on my transfer evaluation for my sceince courses. They received my transcript on July 29th. I email them about once a week checking on the status because I really want to get my nursing application sent in. I hate to be annoying, contacting them a lot, but I am not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?
Application deadline is almost here!!!
Call them. It's much more efficient and effective than waiting for an email. The only time I've gotten email responses from them is when I have specifically emailed, for instance, the nursing advisor. If you're emailing a department...you may never hear back.
Thanks! I feel like I am being a pain, but I really need to know if my courses are transferring in or not.

Hello everyone! I'm also hoping to get into the program at GaHighlands. I've been taking my pre-reqs at Chatt Tech and just recently discovered this great program. As a result, I'm scrambling to get admitted to GaHighlands and sending in my application to the nursing program at the same time. Are any of you that are applying not finished with 100% of the required prerequisites? I need to take a political science during Chatt's fall quarter to pair with my HIST2111 transfer equivalent--none of my 3 history courses quite meet Ga Highland's HIST1000 requirement. I also have to take Chemistry b/c Chatt does not offer the Nutrition course that Ga Highlands-Ah! And of course the computer intro class and developmental psychology that I already needed. I'm hoping that the lack of these classes won't hurt my admission's score too badly. I have a bachelor's degree already, so the SAT score push will help out. Thankfully, I have A's in the 3 Biology courses.
Are the current students enjoying the program? Do you know if they try to place you at a hospital near your home for clinicals? ie, Rome vs Atlanta
Does Ga Highlands offer any type of employment/placement assistance post-graduation? How much are/were books, tools, uniforms, exam fees, etc, etc
So many questions, so little time! :)
