What reason did they give you for denying your application?

You can't retake the NCLEX at this point. I work with a lady who lives rather far away so she works two doubles (16 hours each), two days in a row and stays in a local hotel. That may be an option for you while you work on meeting GA's requirements for endorsement. Good luck, hopefully the following will help you figure out what you need to do!

NOTE: By Georgia law, a Georgia Board approved reentry program must be completed if educational and practice requirements are not met as required.

If applying by endorsement and graduated from a nontraditional nursing education program, the applicant must be licensed as a registered nurse in another jurisdiction and must have graduated from a nontraditional nursing education program approved by the Board which meets the requirements of O.C.G.A. 43-26-7 (e) prior to passing a licensing examination recognized by the Board as valid for licensure as a RN. The applicant must submit the following:

A completed application with a fee of $60.
An official College transcript from applicant’s LPN nursing education showing clinical training in pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, medical-surgical, and mental illness
An official college transcript of applicant’s non traditional nursing education.
A certificate showing completion of program for a paramedic or military corpsman.
A completed criminal background check.
Provide verification of current RN licensure in another state.
Provide verification of original licensure obtained by NCLEX-RN in another state.
A verification of employment as a RN documenting licensed practice as a registered nurse at an acute care inpatient hospital for at least a minimum of 1800 hours or (l) year in the three years preceding the date of application.
Any additional information requested by the Board as needed for licensure.

So, does your friend work in a hospital or nursing home?

We work in a nursing home! I work two 16's myself (but I only live 1/2 a mile away) I have heard of other people on here that do the same in Hospitals, particularly on weekends. I think it's called a Baylor shift. Another option is a federal facility. Your license can be from ANY state, it doesn't have to be GA.

The GBON website seems to be asking for acute-care experience of one year. I don't have any hospital experience, so I may have difficulty finding a hospital job.

And the GBON aren'y really "denying" me, but they haven't touched my application since august despite phone calls and e-mails. I applied for endorsement on advice from EC. If I had ignored that advice and tested directly for Georgia I would have been an RN here months ago.

I guess I'm just a bit confused as to what to do. Getting a job in a state that's 2+ hours away seems silly and the VA that's within driving distance from me hasn't had an open position in months. I'm worried that if I spend this next year commuting to another state, Georgia could still tell me "no" in the end.

I would call them and tell them you have applied and that you realize you don't have the required experience and you need to do the clinical preceptorship. How many hours you have to do depends on whether you were an LPN first, how long you were an LPN, and what kind of clinicals you did.

You may get lucky and have a hospital that will do your preceptorship and hire you on afterwards.

“Preceptorship” means a program of clinical experience or practice that is approved by the GBON in which an applicant for RN licensure gains a stated number of hours of

clinical experience or practice in a health care facility located in Georgia. The applicant must be under the supervision of a preceptor who is a GA licensed RN who is: 1.

located in Georgia; 2. has a minimum of 18 months of experience in an acute care practice setting; and 3. has no history of disciplinary action with a licensing board. Prior to

GBON approval of the preceptorship, a written letter of agreement between the applicant and RN preceptor must be filed with the GBON that: 1. is written on letterhead

stationary of the Georgia health care facility; 2. clearly states the location of the preceptorship; and 3. is signed by the RN applicant, preceptor, and a health care facility

representative. Successful completion of the preceptorship must be verified in writing from the preceptor prior to licensing.

But if you are still denied by GA, at least you will have that experience if you work in another state. Lots of people are doing not so common things to get into the workforce. Tell you husband that hopefully things will settle down once you get established. Good luck.

I agree, and as long as you can pass their background check, once you have the experience I don't think they'll deny you

according to the board you can still be required to do the preceptorship. I am a RT and I had to do 500 hours of clinical. I will be finifshed this week.

Where do you live? I spent 4 years as an LPN on a med-surg unit while I finished my RN with EC (which I just passed my NCLEX last week). I live in a different state now, but I know there are hospitals in Georgia outside of Atlanta that will hire LPNs on med-surg units, so maybe you could get hired at one and work under your existing LPN license as you precept for your Georgia RN licensure. I bet a hospital would go for that. Might be worth a try.

Thanks for the advice. I went up to NC and got a job yesterday and I think my husband is considering moving up there in a few months. I think I'm just through with Georgia.
