Hey everyone! I thought I would start a new thread for those who have applied to the New Grad Nurse Residency at Georgetown University Hospital for the spring/summer graduates! I graduate in May and this cohort starts July 22nd if I get accpeted! The application opened up on November 16th and I applied right away, really hoping I get it. It sounds like it's a great program. I applied for the NICU, by the way! What units has anyone else applied for so far?
Hi Everyone! I applied for the NICU and completed my application pretty early, I hope we hear back soon! I'm from a small town about two hours away from DC and am going to school in Pennsylvania. I think in years past they heard back around the end of this week due to all the application materials that need to be gathered by January before the interviews in February.
I applied on the peds/perinatal track (still waiting to find out where my practicum will be). I was starting to get worried that I hadn't hear about an interview--I'm glad they haven't started sending out invites. I applied about 2 weeks after it opened. I talked to one of the recruiters, and she told me they usually get around 300 applications and really look at what you write in your cover letter since it's the only way they can really get to know you before you interview. Hope we hear soon!
I heard back too! Trying to interview in the NICU. The women I talked to on the phone was very informative when I called to RSVP. They ask whether or not you have experience in those competitive areas of interest, because if you do not you likely won't interview on that floor. Apparently as new grad day becomes closer they look at all of the applicants that want to interview on each floor and decide who will be interviewing. They may then call and ask about other units of interest if you don't have enough experience or aren't the best candidate to interview. Really hoping I have enough experience to clench a NICU spot!! Congrats everyone!!
Thank you so much for that information, that really does help in trying to decide the best unit to give, it really puts things into perspective. So they are basically saying, there is no point in picking a floor you have no experience on? Does she mean any clinical experience or in general?

Hi guys! I applied for the ER and I think we should be hearing back soon! A nurse at MGUH who did her residency last year said she loved it and it is a very supportive environment for new nurses!
