Georgetown University Hospital New Grad Residency 2019

Published

Hey everyone! I thought I would start a new thread for those who have applied to the New Grad Nurse Residency at Georgetown University Hospital for the spring/summer graduates! I graduate in May and this cohort starts July 22nd if I get accpeted! The application opened up on November 16th and I applied right away, really hoping I get it. It sounds like it's a great program. I applied for the NICU, by the way! What units has anyone else applied for so far?

The heck?! I don't even have any information on my preceptorship yet. We won't know till end of January. This just made it extremely complicated. What's the point of offering so many units, if not everyone had the opportunity to find work experience in the unit they want to work in. Now I have no idea what I want to do. Did they say you can't do L&D?

They said it would be very unlikely that I would get an interview there. I think it's only like this for "competitive" units. Does anyone know what happens if you don't get an interview on your preferred units? Are you just done or do they offer you a different unit?

My friend who got a job there for winter said she wanted a unit, but didn't get the job, so another unit liked her, interviewed and now she's going to be working in the OR. So you can get offered to interview on another unit as long as you are flexible.

I got an interview as well! I put down Surgical ICU for my area of interest. I have worked as a Nurse Extern in a Medical Surgical ICU for the past two years and my capstone placement will be in one as well. I'm hoping that will be sufficient experience! Good luck to everyone-- hopefully I will meet some of you guys on February 9th :)))

I got an interview as well! I can't wait for February 9th, we should all plan to meet up somewhere afterwards! I put NICU as my unit of interest!

Hi everyone! I will actually be starting as a Nurse Resident this February. However, this was my second time. My first time interviewing was at New Grad Day last February. As such, I have been in the position you are right now (and even know what it is like to interview at New Grad day and wait to hear back, and even be told that I wouldn't be offered a job) So if you have any questions feel free to ask! I will also let you know that there will be A LOT of people interviewing, and if for some reason you don't get a job, it is not necessarily because you aren't a good candidate. There just might be a better person at that time. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try again if you heart is absolutely set on working in a particular field or just working at Medstar in general. I tried again, interviewed in October, and now will be starting a job in my dream field, at a hospital in a fantastic city, 1 floor down from where my best friend works.

@MediWitch2018 Hey! That's great you'll be starting in February! What unit is it that you will be starting on in February? Is it the same unit you applied to and interviewed for last year? What was New Grad day like? I know its an all day event so I've been wondering what the whole layout of the day is like? Also, how long after the day did you hear back about the position? About how many people, if you had to estimate, would you say are coming?? I am interviewing for the NICU and I have pretty extensive externship experience in the field, but I'm still worried about not getting th position! Do we get to tour/shadow the units?

Has anyone heard anything about when we will know which exact unit we are interviewing for?

I haven't yet, I was wondering the same thing since I applied for a "competitive area of interest"

I haven't heard anything either, hopefully we will get some more information soon!

just heard back about which unit i'd be interviewing on!! Hopefully everyone got what they wanted. So excited!
