Georgetown University FNP Sep 2015

Published

I am super excited because I just received my acceptance letter into GU's FNP program starting in Sep 2015!!!! Just hoping to connect with anyone who is in the application process or who has also been admitted!

Thank you! I hope I see a change soon, it's been over 2 weeks so I'm starting to worry.

Hi PA_RN87! Have you heard back? I think it was 20 days before I got the official e-mail.

Would you guys mind posting your stats and experience? I would like to apply for GU in the future but don't feel like I'd be competitive at all

Hi SquishyRN! I was a bit worried about being competitive as well, but I knew I wanted to go to GU. It has been my goal for a few years. I actually do not have any nursing experience, however this is my second career. I will finish my BSN May 8th. I have a lot of leadership and communication experience and I think that helped a lot. I can't remember exactly what my GPA was but my cumulative was probably around 3.4 and my science was around 3.8. I got my first degree in 1997 and of course had no idea that I would change careers almost 20 years later!! What did you decide? Why are you concerned?

Hi Kayla,

Thank you for replying to my post. I'm concerned because my overall GPA is terrible. My overall GPA is only 3.12 since I took A LOT of classes for my first degree... I switched majors 3 times and graduated with a 2.99 GPA. As for everything after my first bachelor's, my science GPA is a 4.0 and overall nursing GPA is 3.6 (2.78 for my ADN and 3.86 for my RN to BSN). I'm thinking of applying this fall, so by then I'll have 2 years RN experience (1 year in a level I trauma center ER, 2 years in Med-Surg) and 3 years previous LVN experience in Med-Surg and LTC. I'm also hoping the GRE can help my application. I took it 7 years ago and did really well, so I'm hoping to get similar, if not better, scores when I take it again.

I am so sorry for the very late response! Yes, I did my welcome call a few weeks ago. I am so incredibly impressed by the support I have already received. I'm a little worried about the time commitment, but fortunately I am in a place where I don't have to work. I do have a daughter who just started kindergarten and we want to have another baby ASAP, so that concerns me. However, my BSN program was very intense (19 credit hours first semester!!) and I had to drive 110 miles everyday so this will be better. Overall, I'm pretty darn excited!!

Wow, that's a crazy amount of credits for one semester!!! That probably makes GU sound easy 😉. I have found everyone to be very supportive as well. My youngest will start kindergarten this fall and my oldest will be in 3rd grade so at least I will be able to study all day while they are at school. I do plan to work, but I recently decided I am only going to work one 10 hour shift per week the first year.

I'm from Oregon by the way. It really would be nice to live close to a fellow classmate - study groups are easier in person, but with GU there's always the online study group option! 😊

Kayla95,

Have you had a chance to check out 2GU social groups? They have a moms@georgetown group and I have learned a lot just by reading through some of the posts. Everyone seems really supportive and they have offered some really great advice.

Will you be attending full time or part time?

Hi RN2bNP! I briefly looked at the support groups. I will look more at them in June when my life slows down a little bit! I'm especially interested in the moms group too! I will be attending full time. How bout you?

Hi SquishyRN,

I whole-heartedly believe that GU looks at the whole picture, not just GPA (unlike a lot of other schools). That is one thing that really attracted me to the program. Have you spoken with an admissions counselor yet? They are amazing. You should call! I am still in contact with mine (her name is Faith), and she is incredibly helpful and supportive!! I say apply, what have you got to lose? Worse that can happen is you don't get in, and you're in no worse position than you are now. You just never know until you try, right? It took me forever to get my statement of purpose written and to put together my video essay, but everything else was pretty easy as far as the application.

I will be attending part time. I start with patho and research first term. I totally understand about life being crazy right now. I am finishing up my RN-BSN and I will be done end of May!

Hi Fellow Future Hoya FNPs-

I was just accepted to the September FNP program on a part-time schedule. I live in the D.C area so Georgetown is right down the street from me! I have completed my welcome call and must agree that the support I have received from all of the GU contacts thus far has been overwhelmingly positive and SO very helpful. Congratulations all! I cannot wait to start in the Fall and look forward to meeting all of you in the cyber classroom . Cheers to beginning the journey together!

Has anyone received information on their financial aid yet? I keep checking my award information on My Access and there is nothing there yet.

Hey girl! I watched a seminar on the financial aid and I think our award package gets in about 6 weeks before the semester starts. The seminar was so helpful- I don't think I still have the link but I'm sure your student advisor could send it to you. It was pre-recorded in 2GU with the head of financial aid. Hope that helps
