Hi Everyone,
I just submitted my application for Georgetown's Accelerated BSN starting Spring 2010 and I just wanted to open a post for anyone else that has applied as well.
jeter-chick-
Someone else said they picked Sept 17 for the interview and they were given options. Do you think we will be interviewing with regular ABSN applicants? I'm curious if the Direct Entry folks are competing against each other or against the ABSN applicants for a spot.. Also, do you know if we don't get into the Direct Entry program, if we are still considered for the ABSN program? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, I can never reach ***** ***** on the phone!
This is just a speculation but I am guessing that ABSN & Direct-Entry students will all be lumped together for most of the day. Direct-Entry students have to complete the ABSN portion so it would make since that way.
I think that the Informational session might be split up since each program is very different. On my confirmation email it states that interviews would be with BSN committee & the FNP Director. So, it seems we get interviewed from both the Direct Entry Program & BSN programs, as we would be students of both.
Honestly, I have no idea if we would be considered for the ABSN if rejected by the Direct-Entry. I would think not, since there is so many applicants just for the ABSN. I think the programs are seperate entities, but like I said I have no idea for sure, I am just guessing!
I am definately very nervous too and kinda analyzing every detail-- what to wear, what to say, etc... But, we just gotta do our best!
Hi Allimar!
Thanks for the congrats, I was soooo relieved! I was expecting rejection letters across the board, and then my first letter was an acceptance! phew....I'm coming from california.... so if i get in DC will be quite the change!
I only applied to the ABSN, so that makes sense as to why you were told about the committee and I wasnt ( I was worried for a sec).. also makes sense as to why some were assigned dates and others had choices.
Jeter- I bought a suit for the interview. Thats what I was reccomended to do, kinda expensive, but if I get in so worth it! Also, I hear to be prepared for the "why do you want to be a nurse" and why can you handle the accelerated pace" questions... Other than that, Im nervous and dont know what to expect. All I can say is good luck to everyone!! Georgetown would be a dream come true.... we shall see!
Also, if you need to get in touch with ***** *****, I have emailed her and every time got a response almost right away (like, within the hour). I found her to be be so helpful!
Lets keep each other updated! Good Luck!
It seems alot of people are coming from California! I am from Los Angeles where is everyone else from?
We should have an allnurses.com dinner!
WLJ2009-
Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about wearing a skirt since it might be hot, but I wasnt sure if that was appropriate. Pants suits are always a 'go to' for interviews.
I also have had the most luck emailing ***** *****, she responds pretty fast.
friendly staff reminder
posting names of school officials on the public board is not permitted due to privacy issues. please refer to the following portion of the terms of service that you all agreed to upon registration.
no potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:
- it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
- while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
- please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.
I will email her then. I don't know why I try to call her all the time, I guess I figured it would be easier for her to answer the phone than emailing. It really does seem like most of the people who have posted are from california.. I would like to apply out there, but it's just too far from home.
Hi everyone, I have a million butterflies as I review your posts.
Thank you for being out here communicating.
My interview for the ABSN is October 3rd. I figure it may be a crowded
day, but I have classes the other days of the week. What a relief to 'meet' some of
the other applicants before the day :) I've heard that a business suit is definitely
the way to go, and just wonder what they may be looking for. This will be my
first interview for nursing school, and G'Town is the only school I've applied to so far.
Intelligent, compassionate, not-taking-drugs...? What does one look for in nursing applicants
with such varied backgrounds?
I am taking 4 courses this semester, and hadn't considered applying until Fall 2010,
until I met with ***** ***** and she was like, "Apply for spring!" It
sounded like advice to follow, but as I get closer I'm intimidated that others may be
a lot closer to completion already. Would they really accept me with 4 courses left?
It's a gamble, and I'm trying to keep morale up. i.e. It's good to take them all in one
fell swoop to prepare for the upcoming pace.
Ay! Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. It's a supportive bunch out there!
Hi Lizzylou,
I have never had an an interview for nursing school either. With Georgetown being my first choice, I am extremely excited about my interview (in 4 days!). I wouldn't worry about the classes, as long as you complete them before the program at Georgetown begins. I only have 1 prerequisite left for Georgetown, but decided to take 2 classes this semester just in case they don't accept a class (paranoia gets the best of me). Congratulations on getting an interview and good luck!
Good luck on the interview everyone! Its coming up; so exciting :-)
Lizzylou--don't worry. Many folks have gotten in with a bunch of classes left. As long as theyre all done before classes begin, youre totally fine.
Allimar87--please let us know how the interview goes. I'm esp. curious about what everone will be wearing. And the weather...won't it be humid there? I'll have to look that up before going over.
Are you ladies wearing heels too? There's going to be tours the whole morning.
I have a feeling that we might be interviewed with a bunch of faculty and an admissions officer...or maybe I read that somewhere.
Looking forward to meeting some of you there! Keep us posted!

WLJ2009- Congrats on getting into UD Mercy! Did you have to interview for that school? I've never gone to an interview involving admissions, so I really don't know what to expect. I'm reading past forums and everyone is saying that "they weren't surprised, its what they expected it to be- just like the other nursing schools".. that really doesn't help me
--It was the confirmation email. The email confirmed my interview and gave me another itinerary. I'm sorry I never clarified which program I applied to! I applied to the ABSN Direct Entry to FNP. It said that my interview is with the BSN committee and the director of the FNP program. I knew I wanted to continue my education and become a FNP and Georgetown gives me the opportunity to do that! I couldn't pass it up.. plus some of my family lives in DC so I will have no problem adjusting to the city life (I come from a small town)
I also applied the UNC-Chapel Hill ABSN program. I'm from North Carolina so I wanted to apply to a school near home for back up. Chapel Hill has a weird application process. There are no interviews, just essays that you need to write that describe yourself. Based on that, you are either in/out and on the plus side, it only costs about $10,000 for the program. I will hear from Chapel Hill about the same time I hear from Georgetown.
My heart is set on Georgetown though
Only 12 more days till my interview!
