Georgetown FNP May 2018 cohort

Published

I just found out I was accepted to Georgetown University for their online FNP program starting May 2018. Is there anyone else out there that will be in this class??

Pmblat,

So, I received my pre-course work right away after I was admitted to the program. It was a lot maybe 25 hours worth of stuff. I was given access to my classes two weeks ago. After spending many, many hours studying (about 5-6 days of 10 hours a day) on the material for patho, I realized there was a whole section of about 100 pages of additional work (case studies and knowledge check questions) that had to be completed. This is a flipped classroom model so you are expected to teach yourself and then go into class and answer questions and work on case studies to prove that you know the material. 50% of your participation grade is based on whether or not you know the answers to these knowledge check questions. This was not made clear to me initially. This scared the daylights out of me as I am only used to traditional model classrooms. I was frantic trying to figure out how to synthesize the additional information in one day and how I was going to study for my other class...My husband said he has never seen me so upset. I called the school and withdrew and I am now in search of a traditional online platform that does not use the flipped model style. I cannot imagine paying the exorbitant price of GU to teach myself. I understand that a lot of school is teaching yourself but this was too much. Good luck if you decide to go to GU. They have a 100% pass rate but I wonder what their attrition rate is.

Thank you! I heard of the difficulty of this program and makes me wonder if I want go still considering I still want to go for my DNP.

So I have worked full time all 3 semesters so far (7 12s plus 2-3 12 hr call shifts within a 14 day period). I've just had to be self disciplined and self motivated and my husband has had to pick up a lot of slack with the kids and house. If you lay out a schedule for yourself and your weekly goals it can be done.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you find a program that works for you soon.

I'm very nervous as I will need to work full time at least the first year.

Anyone else with experience with the program?

Thanks for the information. My kids are grown so it's just hubby and I. He knows he'll be taking over most of the cooking and housework. (He's actually a better cook í ½í¹„).

I currently work full time Monday through Friday and will need to continue working at least through the didactic part of the program. Any other tips would be most appreciated.

Hi everyone! I'm applying to the AG-ACNP track right now. I was hoping that some of you who interviewed would share the experience and give any advice?

If you're spending 5-6 10 hours days on Gtown patho you're doing it wrong. You're going to be hard pressed to find a non-flipped online classroom....that is kind of the point of online adult learning. And unless things have changed recently, the knowledge checks are graded on completion, not accuracy.

Anyone else going for the acute care track?

PMBLAT,

I reassessed my decision and actually was able to attend a live class as a guest. The platform that is used is extremely supportive and not at all what I had envisioned when I found that file. Apparently, that was for the whole course. The class that I attended was very detailed and allowed room for questions and learning of the topics that students have difficulty synthesizing. It was a wealth of information and I changed my mind and resubmitted my application. I was accepted and will be starting classes with the September Cohort. I am incredibly excited about this. :)

Hello, I applied for the Fall 2020 FNP track and have not heard anything back. Could you tell me a little bit about your career, interview, and application details—If you don’t mind me asking.
