Georgetown Accelerated BSN Fall 2010

Published

I sent my application for the Accelerated BSN in the fall of 2010 and I am anxious already. I do not know if I have a chance of getting in. My GPA from my previous degree is a low 3.1, but I have a 4.0 on my pre-requisites so far. Anyone in my same situation?

Fralliesmom - thank you for the response!!

What were the first few weeks like? Also - are teachers willing to provide extra help if students need/want it?

The first few weeks were crazy. I'm guessing that is similar to any accelerated program though. I kept thinking, what the heck did I get myself into. I'm settling into a pattern now, so I think it will be okay. It's a lot of work and you have to figure out a way to stay on top of it, so you don't fall behind. I personally don't know how one would work while doing the program, so if you can, don't work. This is your full-time job.

The teachers are great. They are very approachable, so I would think they are available if you need it. I am also getting tutoring for pathophys, which has been great.

Hi all! I am new to allnurses and I'm so glad I stumbled upon your conversation! I am going for my interview at Georgetown on the 31st, so I look forward to seeing some of you there. I'm only coming down from Boston, so not as far as some of you. Also, thank you so much to the current Georgetown students, your input has been really interesting/helpful. I was just wondering if any of you (current students or interviewees) have any general advice about the interviews. I know someone mentioned that they did not think the interviews were really important in the application process, more for prospective students to get a feel for the school. Would others agree with this? Anything to look out for? I'm really nervous, though I'm trying not to be! Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I know the program is most likely grueling, but I am so excited about the prospect and really hope to get good news from G-town!

Thanks so much!

i know some of you have had your interviews already and i hope they went well :) (i don't have mine until the 31st)

i was just wondering if anyone knew how long after the interview will we find out if we're accepted or rejected?

I saw a group of you who toured WHC last Friday. I hope you enjoyed the tour. It was my favorite part of the interview. Not sure how they're doing it this time around. We found out in the week after the last group interviewed. Tortuous for me since I chose the first interview date and waited almost a month! Good luck!

I talked to one of the faculty members, and apparently they're only sending acceptance letters to 100 people of the 160 they interviewed, so I imagine the interview does actually play a significant role in their decision process.

One caveat: for those of you looking for ICU experience, you may want to go elsewhere. It sounds like very few people end up in the ICU for their senior practicum.

I really enjoyed the whole process, especially the tour! Everyone was so nice and I really hope I get in :crosses fingers: :D

the interview got me even MORE excited. I hope I get in!!

I'm not sure what to make of my interview and whether I'll be accepted or not.. it was really short and I was definitely nervous. I mean, everybody was incredibly nice and supportive while I was there but I'm just unsure of whether I can really move all the way out to DC since I never moved away for college. I really like the program and I think that it really aligns with all of my nursing interests, but I'm wondering if I can really make the move. Anybody feel the same way?

What did everyone think of the interview? My view is that I'm surprised that the interview was so short and I wished I actually got to see the campus (I had no clue when I was getting called for my interview so I just stayed behind and didn't do the 'self-guided tour'). I was actually surprised that they didn't have a campus tour but I guess it was because there were so many people in the Saturday group? Otherwise, the first half of the day was alright. The whole day was just kind of long, haha :zzzzz

hmm i haven't had my interview yet, but i thought that it would be time set aside for tours... or at least that's the impression I got from the interview email they sent?

and flee43, i'm a little different because i'm actually TRYING to move far lol. I've never been to DC though so I can't speak on DC specifically as to whether or not I can see myself moving there... but we'll see when I get there next week lol.

Hmm interesting. Laura told me that they are only interviewing 125 and have room for 55 students this fall.

On Friday I thought they said they were interviewing 150 and were going to accept 65. Either way I really hope I am one of them!

Funny that you say that, because my aim has to been to move far far away too, haha. It was just a little bit of a culture shock when I got there, I guess you could say. I mean, I think that if I got the scholarship, I think it would definitely be an opportunity I couldn't pass up but it's also what I call, "living at home for too long" syndrome, haha. It's nice to be close to all my family so it's definitely a big decision to move to the east coast (if I got in that is *fingers crossed).

I heard from one of the faculty that they had over 400 applicants, they narrowed it down to 130 for the interview, and will pick only about 65, 40 of which will receive the WHC scholarship. I think it's funny that we all have different numbers, lols. I guess we'll just have to see!
