George Washington University ABSN/VBSN Fall 2015

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This thread is set up for GWU Fall 2015 ABSN or VBSN applicants.

They will inform you by email as well.

Hi Everyone,

I have been accepted for the Fall 2015 ABSN cohort but I am unsure if I will accept. The cost is just so steep! This is such a hard decision. I also applied to the W2 scholarship but like the rest of you, am unsure if it's actually worth it!

It's the end of the day on Friday. Did anyone hear back?

I received an email from them saying they have technical problems with their email system

I applied late Feb, and had everything turned into nursingcas, but they put my application on hold (awaiting materials stage) because they were awaiting my final transcript even though I told them I was in the process of taking the class. This has taken a full month for them to realize even after I notified them, and I am afraid that it will definitely hurt my chances of being considered. Any suggestions on what to do next or do I wait it out?

@zarin23 The same thing happened to me! It was so frustrating. I contacted GW and they said it was fine as long as I paid and submitted everything before the deadline.

I have submitted everything but that one transcript. I'll give gw a call because nursingcas is really not helping me fix their problem.

Hey everyone! I just got accepted. Who knows a good place to live? I really liked the idea of living in foggy bottom but its kind of far, but then I've also heard the trains in DC are really nice (I'm from Chicago)

We should make a Facebook page!

I live in DC in Dupont and used to live in Foggy. I was talking to some former students from the nursing program and they enjoyed living in the city. There is a train that takes you most of the way and from there the school provides a shuttle. However, these women warned me that because of the odd times you may find yourself on campus the shuttle and metro schedule isn't reliable and you basically need to have a car anyway. Plus, possible metro issues... Could also have to do with the fact that they just opened that metro line this past year so it might have been working through some kinks!

If you do choose DC I recommend getting out of Foggy! On the weekends it empties out in kind of a weird way and doesn't feel very neighborhoody. Dupont is walking distance and great, even Logan could work... or if you want to venture over the bridge into VA I'd recommend Ballston, Court House, or Clarendon (avoid Rosslyn)!

@Phineastalisker, just curious why do you recommend avoiding Rosslyn?

Good question! It's been described as a concrete jungle... a little cold feeling... there isn't as much going on in terms of life, it's mostly big big contractor/defense companies in huge office buildings. I've also lived there, as well as in Court House, Dupont, Foggy, U St (been here 8 years), and I just didn't like it actually don't know anybody who would choose to live there. You might find some good deals, but you can find those elsewhere, too. If you want to have easy/convenient access to "real life" and a neighborhood, I'd either jump up the metro line to the Clarendon/Court House/Ballston area or across the river into DC. Rosslyn to me just isn't that inviting and is pretty boring. Hope that helps!

@NikkiG995 - Congrats on your acceptance! I've been thinking a lot about the best places to live too, but am still unsure myself. If you end up living in Foggy Bottom and taking the metro, your commute would look to be about 40 minutes on one line (Silver line) from Foggy Bottom to Wiehle-Reston, followed by 30 minutes on the GW Shuttle (Wiehle express) to campus.

@Phineas - thanks for the detailed response. It's helpful! I was actually looking into Rosslyn because, as you mentioned, costs were pretty cheap there and it still was relatively close to DC., but I'm glad to hear another opinion. I'm also considering the other option of just living close to the Ashburn campus (perhaps even the apartments within walking distance). In the end, I think my big criteria might be saving time on commuting...so leaning towards being closer to the end of the silver line...but still not sure.
