What are everyone's thoughts on the Washington Squared program? Did you apply?
Hi PhineasTalisker,
I applied for the Washington squared program. It seems like a pretty nice deal, but I'm a little wary about having to commit to one hospital for 3 full years post-graduation. What are your thoughts? (I'm guessing you applied for it as well?)
Hey Talfan,
Thanks! Yeah, I was really hesitant about it. I felt like the tradeoff was maybe a little steep... and I wanted to learn more about it (ie flexibility with departments, what if for whatever reason you can't do part of the commitment - need to move, etc... what happens - just wanted more info). It's 50% but when you spread that cost over the 3 year commitment (and no guarantee you'll be in a department that furthers your later goals, like if you know you want to specialize in something) it's about $10k a year. Just not sure if it's worth it.....
@PhineasTalisker - I have a lot of the same questions, and I was just hoping to get more details about W^2 once I hear back from GW about whether they'll take me or not for the nursing program. For what it's worth, several years ago, Georgetown had a similar program w/ MWHC called "WHC Scholars," and there are some old threads on allnurses.com about the topic with answers to very similar questions, but it's no guarantee that the stipulations for both programs are similar.
