George Washington University Absn Fall 2016

Published

Hello! I just received an acceptance for the Fall 2016 class. I am wondering if any former or current students had advice about the program--whether they think it is worth it? How they feel about it? And also if there are any people on here who have been accepted as well!

Thank you

you better check you calendar the $500 deposit is due December 22, 2015 not January.

Hi everyone! I also just received my acceptance today! GW is my top choice, but I'd like to wait to see if I get any other offers before committing. I've heard that if you are interviewing for the Washington Squared program, the decision/deposit deadline may be extended until your interview. But I'm not exactly sure if it still works that way.

Also, I live about 5 minutes from campus, so if anyone has any questions about the area feel free to ask!

Brit I'm flying out there this weekend for the W2 interview. I would love to hear your insights about the DC/local VA area. The deposit is due on the 22nd, it may be expensive, but it is peace of mind reserving your seat. Are there any good british style pubs around the area, I'm a big EPL soccer fan!

Mine isn't due until January 4th and with the extension I requested- January 11th....I checked the calendar, don't worry!

My parents moved to the area from Pennsylvania about 2 years ago (while I was still in college). I absolutely love it here! GW's nursing campus is in the suburbs of DC, about 40 minutes from the city. I like it here because it's a lot less congested than it is closer to the city, but there is still a lot to do around. Also, the closer you are to DC, the more expensive it is to live. If you'd like to have better access to the city but not pay a fortune, I would suggest looking into the Reston area. It's about 20 minutes from campus and is the last metro point. As for British pubs, I'm not sure but I would assume there are quite a few in the DC area!

@avt829 my deadline is January 4th too and I do not hear from any other schools until March. How did you get your deadline extended?

I could only get a week unfortunately, but I just called and asked them! They were really helpful- it just sucks that it's so early of a deadline.

Brit that Reston area advice is extremely helpful. If it pans out the first pint is on me if we become future classmates. I noticed GW has 2 campuses one in VA and the other near Washington Circle. Is there any other potential real estate that you could recommend thats economical but relatively safe. If I get one of the W2 positions I think I would prefer somewhere closer to MedStar. What are your thoughts on the area around MedStar? Have you ever been a patient at MedStar? I noticed they have an impressive Flight Medicine team, I would love to be a Flight Nurse. Are any of the friends in this forum entering nursing with healthcare experience? The 2016 GW crew is going to be a great class! I'm looking forward to starting this journey. Brit do you know of any good eats near the Washington Plaza Hotel? Salud

GW's main campus is in DC, while the nursing school is in Ashburn, VA (which is the one I live 5 minutes from). Much more suburban. I'm not very familiar with Medstar aside from what I've researched, so unfortunetly I can't be much help with that. But I would suggest trying to find a place that's inbetween Ashburn and Medstar, as you'll likely hate the commute from DC to class everyday [emoji16] and I don't know any restaurants off hand! Not sure how close that is to DuPont circle, but there's plenty of places to choose from in that area!

Thank you Brit, its great that you share your insights about the area. If anything else comes to mind do not hold back. If you were offered the Washington Squared opportunity would you take it up and endure the commute?

Hello all! Congrats to those who have gotten into the ABSN Fall 2016 cohort! I also just received my acceptance notification yesterday - what a shocker! I am also applying for the W2 scholarship and am planning to interview in February. I have never been to DC and plan to pay the deposit and if I decide not to go (if i don't get the financial assistance I need) then I'm only out $500 (cringe). I am still waiting on some other schools but would love the chance to be a part of the GW tradition! PM with any additional info!

Welcome Rose, glad you joined our little community. Do you come with healthcare experience? What was your past undergraduate major in? What state are you visiting from? Cheers
