George Washington University Absn Fall 2016

Published

Hello! I just received an acceptance for the Fall 2016 class. I am wondering if any former or current students had advice about the program--whether they think it is worth it? How they feel about it? And also if there are any people on here who have been accepted as well!

Thank you

Good luck on your interview! Let me know how it goes, any idea how many they will select for the scholarship? In answer to your questions I have 3 years experience as a Nursing Assistant in an assisted living facility and I studied Kinesiology and neuroscience in undergrad - Focused a lot on rehabilitative healthcare initially. I am currently in Northern California and am waiting on 6 other schools that I have applied for, some closer and some less expensive.

I'm thinking that maybe once we start finalizing decisions on going or not we should start a page for housing comments and initiate possible roommate arrangements (all very far in advance I know).

I think those are excellent suggestions Rose, especially roommate arrangements. I'll give you the 411 on the interview next week and # of slots available. Air+Hotel+Rental cost me $615, this is definitely my most expensive interview, but I am excited to see our nations capital again. I love north cal, hiking Mt. Tamalpais is one of my favorite spots! I was a science major myself with healthcare experience. Airgorilla was the easiest service to make all traveling arrangements. Cheers

A question for those who have been accepted, when was your application forwarded to the committee.

Congrats to those who have been accepted!!

My application was forwarded on 12/4 and I found out I was accepted on 12/14. So not long after!

Congrats to all who got accepted already! The deadline isn't until February 15, right?

Hi everyone!

Congrats on those who have already gotten accepted! I am considering applying to this program and I was wondering if those who have already gotten in would be willing to share some statistics such as gpa, major and clinical experience?

I've heard great things about GW, so you should definitely apply! I graduated in May with a BS in biology and an overall GPA of 3.60. The only "experience" I had was a few months volunteering at a PT clinic and a month-long internship with VCU's heart failure and transplant program (for college credit).

Hi all! I've just been accepted to GWU! It's my top choice, but my attendance depends on financing (eek!).

I am applying to the Washington Squared program as well. I was wondering if you could share some insight into what to expect? From the email, I got the impression that the interview lasts the whole day. Is this correct? Is it more of a "job" or "school" interview?

Thanks so much, and I look forward to meeting you in the next year!

Also, just so you all know, cohort size of the Washington Squared program is between 18 and 24 students!

For those who have been accepted already, did you submit your application by the priority deadline?

It is a job interview and nothing else. 50% of the Tuition is covered, there is no guaranteed employment after graduation, you spend 80-90% of your clinical training at MWHC (which is a long commute from the Virginia Campus), upon completion of the GW ABSN program you will interview with the department of your choice and an HR rep (just like any other job candidate), you must work for MWHC for 36months with starting pay at $28/hr or whatever the nursing union negotiates. If you fall out of the 4 semester sequence, you are withdrawn from the W2 program, and you pay pack $15k/semester that Medstar covered. Public transportation is unreliable and not a viable option on the weekends, all current W2 program student recommended vehicle transportation. Once you are an employee of MWHC, they provide $10k towards your higher education goals but you have to work for them a full year from every $10k that you are loaned. Interviewers consisted of 1 professor and 1 hospital employee. Would I do it again, probably not, still waiting for a response. I spent over $700-800 for a 4 hour hospital introduction/interview. Hospitals are Hospital, the only draw back of this facility is that they're limited in pediatric services and pride themselves on their adult ICU and organ transplant services. A phone interview or a 20 minute skype interview could have easily sufficed for the actually interview process and saved many students lots of money. Anyone who has worked in healthcare would see that on general impression MWHC is an average looking hospital. For interested W2 candidates it is worth researching the relationship between the nursing union and the hospital, the big 2014 strike comes to mind, nursing/patient ratio was an issue in the strike (1:8). One of the interview questions was, "tell us of a time that you did something wrong or made a mistake and how you rectified the situation or how would you avoid making the same mistake over again?" It was a huge run on type of question that could have easily been broken up into smaller questions, but the interviewers give you time to gather your thoughts. Its very formal, some-what stiff and not very welcoming, but that was my general impression. The best part was networking with other students. All the students were extremely kind, down to earth, and were like minded people. It is amazing the kind of students that are drawn to the nursing profession from engineers, to lawyers and MBAs. FYI the GWU classroom size ranges from 50-70 students on any given year, the last cohort consisted of 40 student. Good luck to all

Thank you so much for detailing your experience for the W2 interview. It was hugely helpful. Will you definitely be accepting the GWU offer? If so, I'll look forward to meeting you in September!
