Is GMU nursing department hard to get in as a transfer student?

I heard it's really competitive, it's all depends on the number of space they have. Any one admitted as transfer nursing student at GMU

I think they go by a point system just like everyone else. Have you been to their site? I am applying to the program myself for the fall of 2010.

I have been accepted into GMU and I am starting in January 09, finishing off my pre-reqs (only need 4)... and then hopefully will get in. You need to attend an "info" session with them and meet with a Nursing Advisor there.

I am currently going to ACT to get certified as a MA to have something to fall back on just in case I don't get accepted right away.

Also, this site has a "regional forum" for people in specific states.... If you click on this: https://allnurses.com/forums/f178/ it will take you to the "Virginia" forum.... hope it helps.

I have honestly only lived here for 2 years so I can't tell you too much as I am still learning myself. If you were in Florida, I could tell you bunches more as I lived there 26 years and attempted to apply to their schools years ago, before I realized my husband wanted a divorce... (kinda screwed my plans up)...

Where abouts do you live? I am in Manassas.

Tami

I applied Mason for Spring 2009, but I had to fill out another application for nursing after I accepted to Mason. I already finished all my pre-reqs, just waiting for the course evaluation. If they take all my credits, thats great, if not, I have to repeat some classes. Since I am a transfer student, it's going to be really hard for me to get in. It's smart that you are getting your MA now. I have to get in, otherwise it's another waiting game. I am in Manassas too.

Oh wow... when do you hear back? I am hoping I get in for the fall of 2010. :) Where in Manassas? I am in the Wellington Place apartments!!

What is an MA?

I also applied to the GMU Accelerated Nursing program for Fall 2010!

Does anyone know the stats? I know its very competitive to get in..

also, I know the TEAS exam was new. Does anyone know what a competitive score is?

Hey everyone -

I am trying to get into the GMU nursing program as well, in couple of months.

In order to get in, it is very difficult to get in as a transfer student.

Out of about 700 applicants only 100 will possibly get in - regardless of how well your GPA is. Don't be discouraged though, there is always a chance.

Most of them are chosen from George Mason because a lot of George Mason student who are chosen declare their Major as Nursing from their Freshman Year. If you go to GMU's information session, they will tell you straight forward to always have a back up plan just in case you don't get in and that they do give some what of a priority to George Mason students over a transfer. That being said, it really is no surprise. I just think the chances of getting in is higher if you are a George Mason student.

Good Luck!

:)

Hi. I am in the USAF and trying to get into GMU thru the Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program of the Air Force, however, they have a 15,000/year cap. With this being a 12-month program, does this mean it is consecutive 12 mos or would it fall within 2 fiscal years (which is what i am hoping for).

Thanks!
