George Mason University ABSN Fall 2020

Hi everyone! I would like to know of people planning to apply to GMU's absn program or those go have completed the program already. What were your gpas and what is a good score on the Hess entrance exam, especially the A&P section.

I got a cumulative score of 89.6. The exact breakdown was:

Grammar: 94, Anatomy: 88, Reading Comp: 88, Math: 88, Vocab: 90

That's a great score on Anatomy which is the only science prereq that is scored on the HESI. During one of the info sessions, an advisor said that they the HESI scores are not the biggest factor and may not even be a requirement next year. I hope that eases some anxiety. I would definitely have a backup school but at least B's is great, especially since the minimum is a C. Best of luck ?

I can’t remember my stats off hand but the admissions committee does look at the student as a whole not just grades. Good luck.

Hello everyone!

I submitted an application for the upcoming class and I'm super excited to hear back! In terms of my stats, I have an undergrad GPA of 3.69 with all As in my pre-reqs, except for microbiology and nutrition which I'm currently taking. My cumulative HESI score was 96.8.

I was checking on my application, and saw that the "Under Review" step was completed already and it stressed me out because it's so early. Has anyone else's "Under Review" step already been completed?

Just went in to check and same here...

I still haven't gotten a notification from GMU though. Have you? Like the general application response?

I'm glad someone else sees it too! That reallyyy eases some of my anxiety.

And I didn't get a formal notification or email or anything, but I checked the general application portal a couple days ago and saw that I had been accepted.

Hi! My BSN application also says the "under review" step was completed. I was pretty nervous when I saw that since I read on their website that decisions go out sometime in April and thought there was a glitch or something. It's a relief to know others have it too haha. Best of luck to you on your application! ?

I checked the portal too and it says "Congrats! Your application is under review" hahaha

Hey guys! I also applied for the 2020 nursing program, the accelerated one. I, too, am a little worried about my GPA. I'm finishing up the last of the prerequisites this semester, but when I was filling out the application, my GPA was a 2.9 ? so I literally need to ace all of these classes, but even then, it's going to be very low.

However, I got a 92 on the Hesi so I'm hoping that redeems me a little bit. How heavily do you think the essays are weighed?

@NPHopeful I have no doubt at all that you are going to be accepted, your stats are great! That's probably why your 'Under Review' has been completed - they must not have needed to think too long about it! Mine is still under review.

Also, I was mistaken - I got a 94 cumulative on the Hesi:

92 on reading comprehension, 96 on grammar, 96 on vocabulary, 92 on A&P, and 94 on math. For learning style, I got kinesthetic/global and for personality, I got creative/people.

I calculated a 'what-if' weighted GPA for if I get A's in the three classes I'm taking this semester and if I do, my GPA would be about 3.38, which means there could still be hope for me!
