George Brown or Centennial - RPN to BSCN Bridge for Sept 2021

Published

Hello everyone,

Anyone else applied the Bridge 2021 at George Brown or Centennial?

want to wait for offers with me?

I am wondering if I can hear from past students at either of these two school about their experiences?

When did offers come out? hard to get into? They are both listed as noncompetitive?

Did you like the program? I heard these schools are not really self-directed like McMaster programs, care to share your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I applied to GB for September intake and centennial for jan2022 intake.
GB status remains remains under academic review for weeks now.

I emailed to ask if I have chances to get in they replied "there are chances, please keep checking your application status"

so, still waiting..

anyone in the same boat?

Thanks, everyone for your input! I've decided to accept my offer at GBC for the bridging program. I spoke to someone at Centennial and they said they wouldn't review the Jan 2022 intake until June/July. I didn't want to keep waiting to hear back from Centennial and risk not getting in.

I'm on the same boat with GB. I'm wondering when they are going to send out their next sets of offers?

I know it’s so hard to wait.

hopefully, they will let us know before June.

fingers crossed ?

Hey @MOMTORN thanks for clearing that up. Did you hear back from centennial yet?

I have heard nothing yet but my application says they are waiting for proof I completed the RPN program before the conditional offer requirements are met so I am still waiting.. ughhh

ME!! glad I am not the only one! many people have offers that expire this week so we can keep hoping...

GBC is all online starting in September

Is Centennial as well?

I just found out today that Centennial never received my transcript which was sent to them last month. They asked me to ask OCAS  to email it to them because all there staff is working from home and no one is looking after the mail right now.. weird!

when I called OCAS, they said I should contact my college where I did my Practical nursing from. I am confused and frustrated!!

This is crazy

The temp license is a way for you to work as a nurse prior to writing the CPNRE, you apply to the CNO once your school confirms you are finished your program and pregrad hours, complete all the tasks there except the CPNRE exam and then apply for a temp license. In order to get one you have to have a confirmed job offer in hand and the new employer will have to complete a form for the CNO confirming the job offer. This license is then good for 6 months or until you write the CPNRE which ever comes first.

Hope this helps.

Hi Momtorn!! I was wondering if you knew kf

we could apply for two temporary licenses if we have been offered employment at 2 places? For example, I recently got two part time job offers and both facilities would like me to start ASAP when the temporary license is filed? Thanks! I can’t find any info about it on the CNO website.

I think you can only work at both just have the employment form completed for both locations and send them in together. Worse then could say is pick one.

Hi, does anyone know an active group for people starting RPN in George brown this May 2021, also need advise on what to expect and how to better prepare myself.

Hi there! I just graduated from George Brown Practical Nursing a few weeks ago and am studying for the licensing exam.

I'm not sure if you will have any in-person learning for labs and stuff since COVID cases are high right now... But one thing I will say is try to make a group of friends to study with. Make sure they are actually hard workers that way you guys can work together through the material and ask each other questions and teach each other things. That is the best way to learn in this program in my opinion because half of the professors in this program don't care about you. I don't mean to scare you but just know that a lot of the learning will be self-taught.

Most of the professors will just read off the powerpoints. Do your readings but don't stress if you are behind, they are helpful but most of the information you need you can find on Youtube which is way more efficient to learn that way in my opinion. Spend a lot of time studying your anatomy and really getting to know the body as this is the foundation for the later courses in pathology and pharmacology and nursing theory. Pharmacology in second and third semester is boring but hard. Do not put it off because you don't like it.

I think the best advice I can give you is to find a good support system of peers within the program. I can't tell you how much better this program has been because I had friends experiencing the same things as me and we were able to lean on each other. So many nights of endless studying, crying together, practicing skills. But it gets easier with time.

Believe in yourself and you will do great!! Take ownership for your learning and remember that even the most minute things that you don't think are important you will definitely use in practice when you start clinical and become nurse in the future. You can do it!

Wow, thank you so much for this, I'm very grateful.

Hey guys I'm in my last semester of my George Brown PN program, and the decision of my conditional offer for GBC was made on the 1st of February and the offer letter was emailed to me on the 10th of February. My I wrote my casper test on January 12th and I applied to all of the schools in late December; the conditional offer is different for everyone in-terms of deadlines to meet, you usually have to complete everything by the middle of July. For centennial they said that I have to complete my PN program and pass my CPNRE before they can make a decision, and I believe I have until July 1st to do so.

The RPN to RN bridging programs do like to take their own RPN students into their bridging programs (hence Humber only accepting Seneca/Humber RPN students, and GBC having over 700 applicants but accepting 50% of those applicants from the GBC RPN program; I was also in a group session for GBC's bridging program and they admit applicants off of a first come first serve type acceptance rate, and not a competitive GPA, so if you have meet all of their requirements before Feb 1st then you probably would have got an offer into the program, they won't look at your application until you have met their required level on the CASPer test(so people who wrote the Casper test in January have the best chance of admission so long as their other requirements meet GBC standard; the CASPer test takes 3 weeks to grade and an additional 1-2 weeks before the school receives your result), GBC will still send out offers after February 1st; they gave offers to 200 applicants last year admitted about 140 into their program and were still giving out offers to people until the first day of class due to some people not meeting the conditional offer terms and some people rejecting their offers).

You'll probably have a better chance of getting into the bridging program at the school you did your PN program at, but hopefully this helps and I hope you get an offer into the bridging program of your choice.

And I haven't heard anything from Mohawk or Conestoga, I think those are the 2 worst schools in-terms of communication and updating their applicants, like at least GBC and Centennial tell you about what you’re missing, but good luck everyone!

How was the PN program in George brown, how was your experience with the professors
