I am going to be working part time as a unit secretary while I do my Accelerated BSN, even though my school recommends we not work at all. I can't afford to not work, plus the hospital does tuition reimbursement and if I drop below 1/2 time I have to give them their money back! That would be horrible. From my experience, most hospitals are really flexible w/ scheduling nursing students because they want you to work for them as a nurse when you graduate, so they will work around your school schedule as much as possible. So I think you will be fine!
How do you become a unit secretary? Do you have to be certified or do you need a degree? Right now I am doing my pre-req's and I was thinking it would be better if I worked in a hospital because I know some will even help you pay for nursing school and I would also like to work in the environment beforehand so that I get a feel of it. I've been a secretary before and I am currently working in a mailroom so I figure there must be some job like that I could get. Having 5 free days a week sounds great too, even if those two days are twelve hours each.

I am currently working from 7a -7p every Sat & Sun as a unit secretary at a hospital. I am starting an ADN program this fall. Do you guy think I will be able to work this schedule and attend nursing school also?
