The power of positive thinking

I had part 1 of 3 nursing orientations last Wednesday. And one of the things that she kept saying sporadically to us is that our graduation date is May 16, 2006. She said that one of the things that got her through nursing school is putting the month and year of her graduation on top of her notes, paperwork, etc....she also advised us to do the same....she said to put 05/06 all around us. If you believe that you will be a nurse, than you will be a nurse. The first step in reaching that goal is to survive nursing school, if we really want this and hunger for it like nothing else in the world....than it will happen. I was really inspired by her orientation presentation and I am one of the lucky ones to get her for the lecture portion of NRS 107. I really do believe, and I"ve already started posting 05-06 all over the place....lol. Do you all have any mantras or positive thoughts to help get you through nursing school?

I absolutely believe that little "reminders" like this can help you maintain your perspective. Back in June our instructor stopped lecturing for a minute and asked us, "do any of you know what today is?" She took the time to point out that 1) the day was the halfway point of our med-surg course and 2) the day was also exactly one year before our graduation date of June 12, 2005.

It was a big mental boost. And while I'm at it, playing the date game  :chuckle after today I'll have less than 11 months to go. Woo hoo! Exciting and a little scary at the same time. :)

Yes, I believe this is what's going to work for me. I have a countdown for everything. I had a countdown for orientation, because I knew I was that much closer to starting classes. Now I am in the middle of a countdown to the start of nursing school. I'll have mini countdowns throughout the year, but I already know my grad date...it's in my sig line. I want to be reminded of it everyday. It will keep me going.

Good idea! :)

I think I'll start this too....cause I need to keep reminding myself why I started in the first place.

Maybe I can do this in all aspects of my life, and not just school. Just continually remind myself "why"....

Good idea! Thanks!

What a timely post. Thanks so much. I'm going to try this too (6/06, 6/06, 6/06). :chuckle Great idea especially now I'm kinda down in the dumps.

That could work for us who are finishing up prerequisities. I want to get into the LPN to BSN program. I just have to think "I will get into the LPN to BSN program Fall 2005". Power of positive thinking, does work. I have to be positive.

Cheer up Suzy! :) Hugs to you.

I do this too! People are constantly asking when will I be "done with school." My response is always... "December 18 at 1:00 pm." That is the time that the graduation ceremony will begin!! ;)
