Speech Topic Ideas??

Published

Hey Guys! Today was my first day of summer classes and my first assignment is to give a 15 minute speech. Yikes!! It is a nutriion class and I can talk about anything in the world as long at it is related to nutrition. Does anyone have any cool ideas for a topic? Thanks a bunch!!!

How about gearing it towards kids... you know, when they get to that "picky" stage? you could offer ideas for the class for nutritous snacks and such..

Just a thought.......

....or something relating to nutrition for Diabetes???

Create visual aids for portion/sizes of food. Helps diabetics and anyone interested in visualizing the food pyramid

How about talking about fad diets?? There are many different kinds and most of them don't work. ??

I was going to say diabetes (consistant carbos) but it was already mentioned. It is a great topic though, lots of patients in hospital with complications of DM or just non-compliant.

Good luck!

Focusing on alternate forms of nutritional support may be of interest, i.e. Total Parenteral Nutrition, Tube Feedings, etc...

A while back I wrote a humour story called "MAcdonalds is a Martian Franchise" and it dealt with how bad the fast food industry was but conversely how addicted we all are and speculated that if the fast food industry were to close tomorrow we would collectively go into such withdrawal that it would allow any alien invaders to take over. It's very "way out thereness" made it funny so have you thought about taking the mickey out of fast food and our addiction to it?

Another idea would be to talk about WHY diets don't work - in other words why is complieance with dieting so low? All sorts of psychological impacts come in there as well as impacts of advertising.

There is a recent article in New Scientist about how the American Sugar industry was lobbyiing the US congress to stop funding to the World Health Organisation because that body had dropped the recommended daily intake of sugar to just 10% - the politics of nutrition
