I am applying for the preceptor experience for my last semester. Are any of you doing this? Yay or nay?

Specializes in MICU for 4 years, now PICU for 3 years!.

Our entire last quarter here is a preceptorship. I believe we have a class one day a week, but the rest of the time we are at the hospital paired up with a nurse, and we work the days they do.

Specializes in L&D.

We have ~110 hours of preceptorship our last semester.

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

Still a year away for me! But our last semester is classes for the first three months, and then one month of preceptorship (140ish hours).

Specializes in LDRP.

Our school \has a crappy preceptorship thats not mandatory. ONly 24 hours. Though im not too concerned, as I did a 400+ hour externship this past summer. My preceptorship is in Labor & Delivery, and I'm doing it in about 3 weeks :)

Mine is still a year away, it's in our 4th semester, but we have a mandatory preceptorship of 90 hours. I am glad we get to do it. It is right before we graduate and I believe it will only be helpfull.

Mandatory preceptorship for the school here, last semester (will be spring 2006 for me, if all goes as planned...) :chuckle

Not sure the number of hours total...

Specializes in MICU, CVICU.

Our school also has a built in/mandatory internship (it's actually one of our classes) in our last semester. It's 3 weeks and we have 120 hours, so basically full-time. OUr other classes end early so the last three weeks are only preceptorship.

Specializes in ICU, psych, corrections.

We finish our exams by April 29 and then spend the next 3 weeks, two days a week, 13 hours a day, doing our practicums. They are pass/fail. Outside of school, I've been working as an Apprentice Nurse for over a year in the ICU. They pair you with one or two preceptors/mentors and you work in conjunction with them providing patient care. It's been a great experience, plus they pay great (I get almost $17/hour). I also just found out that I've been hired on as an Graduate Nurse once school is done and will begin my internship in the ICU....WOOHOO!!!
