Online Class?? Anyone Know About This.

  1. All:

    - Talked with St. Joseph's School of Nursing today. Looks like I am in the program - but I need to take a chemistry pre-requisite.

    - Seems I had a D+ in Chemistry back in High School 1981.

    - Even with an MS-Computer Science Degree, the Nursing School Admissions Board says that I need to get a C or better in Chemistry.

    - So, checked in with the local Community Colleges around here, but the do not offer Chemistry Classes.

    - Question to you guys:

    - Anyone know of an on-line course where I can knock off this Chemistry requirement??

    - I imagine the nursing school will say it needs to have a lab or somesuch - but I figure i will try to find an on-line chem program and then submit the syllabus to the nursing school committe for approval.

Do an online search--most major colleges offer a wide variety of online courses. I took an online statistics course just last summer. I am not sure about the lab component
    Good luck!

Most nursing schools require that you take lab. I'm not sure how they do that online.

I dont know any Nursing program that does not require at least a C or better in Chemistry, and most do require lab to go with it. I personally wouldn't do it online but that is just me.

I think that is weird that no community colleges around you dont offer any Chemistry classes? Do you have any local universities near ya?

Good luck! I hope you find something that will work out for you!

I'm taking Chem spring quarter because I hadn't had it within the past 5 year as is what they require (took it 16 years ago in high school...don't remember a lick of it!).

I would think that a community college would have chemistry courses. It seems awfully weird that they wouldn't. That's where I'm taking mine anyway. Check with all colleges & universities in your area. Also, ask your nursing school. I'm 99% sure they would be able to tell you where you could take the class.

I've never heard of an online chemistry class. Usually there is a required lab that goes along with the lecture.

    Good luck!

Check out Weber State U and U of LaVerne - They both offer online Chem courses with labs on CD - One is 4 credits and the other is 5 credits.

Believe it or not, my university program does not require a chem lab! I have been able to get by with two semesters of biochem taught by the best instructor... he assumes we know nothing and makes sure he explains it all for us! I can't believe that community colleges don't have some chem classes... here in Hawaii sometimes things are named differently... here all A & P courses are listed as Zoology. I had a friend who didn't understand that and wondered how med students could graduate without A & P. Have you talked with a counselor at the community college to see how pre-med students prepare?
