WOW! I know you don't know me, but I am so totally proud of you. You may be starting a little later than high schoolers, but you are right with lots of us starting later. This is my second career, my first being a teacher. The great thing about you, is that you've matured some first, probably very driven, and a little more secure in yourself. So be proud of yourself, you are NOT ALONE!! You will do great! You have all of us for support, come here often! This is where I get almost all of my support.
    God Bless, Heather
P.S. For studying ideas, look at the heading in stud nurs'g about flashcards, lot's of good info.

I am in the same boat you are. Since it's been years since I've taken any difficult classes, I am a little scared about getting through anatomy with a good grade. I plan to study my rear off when I am not working.
    Good Luck!

Micro was *very* hard for me. It had something to do with combing chemistry (which I can't stand) with biology (which I love) and I had to study and stay focused. As long as you do that, you will pass.

First of all, congratulations on going back and doing what you want! I've said this before, and I'll say it again, the best advice I can give is to take it one day at a time! When I was in school, I would think about all the time I had left to finish, and it would seem impossibleand I would actually get depressed! But one day I decided to just make it through one day/one week at a time. Of course I kept my mind on my goal, which was ultimately to be an RN, but I got there in 'little bites'! LOL RagNZ said every paper she passes is a little closer to her goal, I thought that was a perfect attitude!! As far as going for LPN first or straight for RN, go for RN if that's what you want. In fact, where I went to school, I took the two year RN course, and was allowed to sit for my LPN boards after 3 semesters, as long as I took maternity in those first three semesters. I took my LPN boards as a "practice" and actually passed! I worked as an LPN for about 3 months before getting my RN, and it was GREAT experience! Others in my class did it too, which worked out perfectly for one person who had to temporarily drop fourth semester for personal reasons. And microbiology? It was tough, but I took it by itself and really found it to be quite interesting! I definitely wouldn't take it with another science, I don't think. Anyway, good luck, and keep coming back to the board!! The student section is a great support!

I just want to say how nice this forum is. I've been scared, excited, nervous, have butterflies and the whole kit and kaboodle, but coming here and reading that i'm not alone has really helped me out. I know that I can do it and achieve my goal just like everybody else. I just want to thank everyone for their kind words, compassion and advice and I will leave you with some advice my mom (who is a nurse) left me....each class is no different than the one you passed before.. whether its nursing or pre-reqs.. they all consists of hands-on, books and tests... if you can pass the one before then you will pass the ones in front of you... you are have made it this far...and I can't wait to see you graduate in May of 2005....
Like my mom said, i feel the same way about you all...keep the chin up..know that its all the can do...and we as nurses will acclomplish alot. thanks again

I thought Microbiology was easier (but still really tough mind you) than A & P. It's the Physio that kills me, and I will be taking the 2nd part of that, ick! Heather
