How are your prospects looking? Should we believe that healthcare is booming?

I finished school in September and got a casual job on the unit I did my final focus. However this is in Alberta, Canada. I'm not sure about the situation in the States. I am sure I've seen other people talking about this in other forums though. I suggest you look around.... maybe in the new grad section. Good luck.

I was fortunate enough to be hired before I graduated school. I still have to take and pass boards, but I'll be starting in a PICU as soon as I do. I filled out upwards of 100 applications in the few months before graduation, but limited to mostly pediatric areas, since I really wanted to work in peds. It took me several months to get an interview, and finally got two interviews in the same hospital. I was offered the job on the spot for the PICU position.

Healthcare isn't booming yet. There are still a lot of experienced nurses out of work, part time nurses picking up full time hours to make up the financial difference, nurses holding off retirement until the economy improves, many people unemployed without insurance who aren't seeking care, and a lot of elective surgeries postponed until the patients can afford it. Hopefully it turns soon.

I graduate in 2 weeks and have a job lined up. I applied to 4 hospitals (the 5th still doesn't have any openings posted) and got hired at my top choice facility. I'm one of the lucky ones.

So far, we have about 15-20 people in our class of 55 with jobs lined up. At least 2 of us have jobs out of state (IL and VT).

I have a job at med-surg/telemetry floor. It was the first and only hospital/position I applied for, and I got it.

I don't have the deals finalized in writing but I have a few very strong job possibilities. I can't take NCLEX until at least the second half of June, so signing on for a job is still premature for me.

Sounds like there are more positives than negatives, for a change! Maybe I should go on for

my RN.
