I am a first year nursing student full time, 2 days of clinical, class and one day in the lab practicing those concepts  . I am having a difficult time getting my study habits together so that I feel like I accomplished some thing. I am thinking the key is to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE !!! I have 2 girls 8 and 3 and it seems whenever I am trying to get in the books they NEED ME ! YEP, I am guilty of ignoring them!!!

Any words appreciated !!!!

I had to get out of the house to study for nursing school. I'd use the school library.

It's tough when you have kids. Good luck. :)

I offered to rent my spouse a mistress while I was in school...jokingly of course, but he did get the message. :roll

I did get headphones for his electric guitar. He played, quietly, while I studied.

Can you get some help on the weekends? If you have a hsuband, does he help you with chores etc? I have a 7 year old and I understand fully what you are going through. Good luck, hang in there!

There was a discussion sometime back about places to study. Someone said they converted a space in their bathroom for a place to study....I've been staring at my bathroom for sometime now thinking that might not be a bad idea as the bathroom is the ONLY place in the house I'm left alone for any period of time.

You'll find you can get the busy work done (lots of busy work in NS) with your children present in the same room, even fighting with one another, because after time, you'll learn to block out everything. But the actual, sit down and learn the material time, you'll need a back up plan.

Declare a space in your house, right now, that is for you. Whenever you are there, you are off limits unless there is broken bones, blood or death.

Find someone (a spouse, friend, grandparent, neighbor) to keep an eye on them for the "serious" study time or maybe to be close by in case there is broken bones or blood.

Good luck!!

IF you want to get out of the house try maybe a local bookstore like B&N or Borders. They usually have chairs and tables spread around, and it's a nice quiet environment. Personally for me, for some reason, I like to get out of the school setting just because of the overwhelming feeling. I liked to be in a different setting. Me and my classmates have even gone the food court right next to the school! lol, but yes, it is way overwhelming. My first few weeks I came home everyday crying because I was thinking what am I doing? But it really does get better after you figure out what to do to be organized. Good luck and just remember it takes time! :)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Welcome to my world :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have found that my car parked by the ocean is my place to study, once a week I take off (leave the wife 2 and 3 year old at home) drive to the beach and get a slice of pizza, then park by the ocean and read, go over notes, and study. Very relaxing, and I can get more done in 2 hours there than 8 at the house. I also use note cards to study, utilizing the 5 minutes I have while waiting on line at the grocery, or waiting for the wife.

You will learn what works best for you, that's what it is all about, time management and utilization.

Good Luck!!!!!!

I wish so much that I had an ocean to sit by! lol, that would really help me too. It is so relaxing. We used to go to Gulf Shores, AL every summer, but with the hurricanes that may not happen for a while.

I just think that sometimes it is better to remove yourself from over stimulating environments such as home and yes, even school. Although school has resources such as the library and the instructors, but to me, I am so stressed out there sitting through lecture that I find I focus in a different environment. But like you said, each person is different.
