took kaplan, now taking nclex very soon!
Okay, I am so nervous about taking Nclex. I graduated dec. 3rd and took Kaplan dec 18 through the 21. I have been doing the qbank questions on their website, about 100 or more a day. Sometimes I do well, but a lot of times i don't do so well. They say you need to get a 65% on their tests in order to put you in passing range for the Nclex. I am a horrible test taker, I get anxiety so bad and I am so afraid of failing. I am trying to be confident, but I feel like an idiot. Anyone have any advice? I think i'm going to go crazy.....

TEAS vs. HESI
Hi! I took the TEAS for my program. From what I hear it is pretty similar to the one you took. No, you aren't able to use a calculator. You can use scrap paper, but for me neither helps because i can't do complicated math, lol. There is algebra and all sorts of things. Overall though, i scored what I needed to, to get into the program BUT......from what i've heard teachers say they prefer the HESI over TEAS. TEAS is ran by a company called ATI, which is the tests that we take at the end of each quarter as a "practice board". We have had nothing but trouble as a class with those tests. Some of our professors that have taught at other programs who used the HESI say they like that better. Any study guide is worth the money unless you're totally confident you'll pass. you can go to http://www.atitesting.com to get it, or you can check for used ones on http://www.campusi.com or ebay or something. Hope this helps! Good luck!

AZ ADN students
our requirements was an interview, certain pre-requ. classes, a certain score on the T.E.A.S. test, reference letters....i think that's it. it would be nice to not have any requirments, but i can see why so many people fail out. i think the weeding process is in the acceptance period. they just have to be sure who they are accepting, which still some bad ones can slip through.

Nursing assistant ??
I became a nursing assistant by volunteering on the med/surg floor. I just helped out with the secretary, but i was able to get to know the nurses and nurse manager of that floor. I had voiced my interest in working as a nursing assistant, and they decided they wanted me. after much persistance on my part and many phone calls that went on for about a month, i had the job. they paired me up with a c.n.a for three weeks to receive on the job training. so i'm not certified, but i do work as a nursing assistant. it just took a lot of persistance. there are some community colleges and even hospitals or nursing homes that offer the training and test. just do some research in your area. but that is my story on how I became a nursing assistant. and yes, it has been great experience, but i am so ready to not be a nursing assistant anymore! lol

Looking for some words of wisdom
I am a true believer that you can do anything you put your mind to. When I was doing all my pre-requ's it was blood sweat and tears, but I got through it because I knew I needed to. Now in nursing school, I am excelling. There will be many times that you want to give up and wonder "why am I doing this" but trust me, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It's important to stay determined. I heard a quote not too long ago from that tv show "grey's anatomy" that has really stuck with me. It goes: "why do I keep hitting myself in the head with a hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop" I think that sums up nursing school, lol, but it really is great to say you are going to be a nurse. People tend to show a little bit more respect and appreciation to you. Good luck to you!
