How were your nursing books that you bought online?

I was thinking about buying my books online from half.com and ebay. I don't know though, what if they get here and have pages torn out or are missing CD's? I absolutely love the CD's that come with books and I don't want to miss out on them. I also thought what if a book never arrives? I know separate people are just mailing out these books and I don't know who I can trust; it just seems too easy to have problems. I can buy all the books from my bookstore, pre-boxed, new, with syllabi, and the correct editions for just under $1000. I totaled up some choices from half.com and came in at 695.00 with two of the books missing because they didn't have them and without one box of drug references that we are supossed to get new. What do you think? has anyone has any problems buying online?

I have also found that if a class suggests the newer version like 4th edition, and the 3rd edition is cheaper there isn't much difference. In my Foundations class, we were told to get the newer version, but my cousin when she went she had a later edition, I used that one and still passed the class.

That's it. I'm gonna just go on and order from the book list for Fall 2005. Their not getting all my money.:nono:

Wal-Mart has the cheapest new textbooks I have found on a consistent basis. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=58294&path=0%3A3920%3A58294 The link will take right to their textbook site.

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

My classmate got all her books through Amazon, I am still awaiting for my school to get them in. I SHOULD have gone that route too. She is happy, got a great price and has a head start. :)

I noticed this too. My school won't even tell us what the books are until the 19th of January.

I use BigWords.com. You type in the ISBN numbers of all the books you are looking for and they spit back a lot of options. They factor in free shipping, bonuses, etc. I believe I learned about Bigwords.com from this site.

On the other side of the coin, I am an ebay seller. I try to sell all of my books on Ebay, because I get nothing when I sell them back to the bookstore. Friends of mine who have graduated from my program before me have told me to not keep my textbooks. I am taking an NCLEX prep course and I can't see myself researching NCLEX questions by looking through my 1500 page textbooks, especially when it is much easier to find the info online. Some sellers try to make a few bucks on shipping, I avoid those auctions. I only charge actual shipping, there is a way to figure out exactly how much it will cost.

Another heads up, if the seller doesn't mention if they smoke or not you may want to ask. I bought a book once that smelled so bad I couldn't use it. I kept it in the garage for a month to air out and it was finally usable.

I bought all my books for nursing school online new. I have not bought any used books at all. My reason is that I will keep all my books after I graduate because they are excellent reference tools that I may need when I am a practicing nurse. I got the CDs and extras with my books so it was a great deal - plus I spent about 2/3's of what my classmates spent when buying them from the bookstore.
